Having now realised all my lifts are poo compared to the general majority, i'm currently training for a GBPF meet in the winter. I used to follow all the crap from mens health etc but more recently (about 3 months ago) started a 5x5 programme and have seen some good gains. Is this the best sort of programme to follow for a powerlifting meet? Cheers

Gone and easily forgotten....... Member 331, 22298 posts SQ 185, BP 100, DL 230515.0 kgs @ 85kgs UnEq | There is no real answer to "what is best". Depends entirely on your goals! 5x5 should do you fine for a while. Best of luck!

Nearer the time you'll probably need to think about lowering your reps. I'll let the powerlifters give you a better reply. I'm glad you've realised that Men's Health is utter s**te. That's the 1st step!

I've also taken the second step and got a rack and oly weights as the gyms near me are crap. Full of mens health retards that dont know a deadlift from a squat.
