My knees have been quite bad for ages and just recently my left knee has got a lot worse. My osteopath seems to think that the cartilage is damaged and that I will kneed (sorry) to have some kind of operation done to fix it.

It strikes me that, depending on what I end up having done, I will almost certainly benefit from a sympathetic consultant who understands about squatting heavy, etc.

So... have any of you had any kind of knee op and, if so, how did it go, etc, etc.

I guess the stuff I'd like to know includes:

1. Name of consultant/surgeon
2. Procedure done
3. Time off from lifting
4. Time to regain full strength

Obviously don't go naming somebody and then say they're a useless c**t or you might end up in court.

So far I know that a lot of top sports people (e.g. Joe Cole, Freddie Flintoff to name but two) use a guy called Andy Williams: http://www.drfosterhealth.co.uk/consultant-guide/Mr-Andrew-Mic...

Has anybody got any useful info to share?

I ruptured my ACL playing Semi Pro football.

I had surgery to treat a miniscus tear and was back squatting again 4 weeks later. I then had an ACL reconstruction. Both surgeries were conducted by Mr Jari from Euxton Hall in Chorley. I was running again in 8 weeks and playing football again in around 10 weeks. I started squatting at around 6 weeks, when the swelling had gone down. Being a closed chain exercise, it was highly recomended by Mr Jari and the physio team to squat heavy and squat often.

Some great info here http://www.kneeguru.co.uk/KNEEtalk/index.php?board=17.0

Sorry, to answer your questions

For a simple cartilage operation

1. Name of consultant/surgeon - Mr Jari
2. Procedure done - Miniscus Cartliage repair
3. Time off from lifting - 3 weeks
4. Time to regain full strength - 8 weeks

Cartilage operations are a peice of piss.
