If I was in my Prime like Shaun Clegg I wuold be tempted to compete in the cross fit games rather than the Olympic Games (although why not do both)

Why ?

Olympic Games 1992 I was 26th Place - Prize money f**k all even if I was capable of winning it

Cross Fit games Champion last year did 140-170 at around 90 kilos bw what i did at 75k

Prize Money Five hundred thousand dollars !!!!!!! Sponsored by Rebok

true they dont just do the lifts but I would seek a coach on the fitness gymnastic 'event' like say some body who knows his stuff on varius elements ie

strongman training - Mark Clegg

and a certain fitness coach who helped the Manchester United football Team

granted this is a one off event but I would try to find smaller events with prize money of a few grand or even a few hundred quid

Well thoughts ?

Thoughts ?

If a big c&j and snatch won you the games all oly lifters would do it

It's a different ball game all together ... First event last year was a marathon and Sure some marathon runners could do it faster. Why don't they go do it

Shane's right.

Illin would not place well in the games.

There are too many other dimensions being tested.

if you go on the crossfit youtube channel there is a world silver medalist I think giving one of the WOD a go. not top tier in terms of performance from what I can remember

I think you're referring to this:

I been debating this long and hard with someone for a while, someone like Lü Xiaojun would do well if he trained crossift IMO.

I am somewhat in agreement with the folks that think it's more likely people will go the other way. Young folk will go to crossfit cos it's well konown, enjoy it and then focus on Oly lifts. It might strengthen oly lifting clubs in turn in the West and improve Oly Lifting as oppose to Oly lifters going the other way?

Surely there's not actually a lot of prize money in crossfit overall and as people have said it's maybe not that easy to go over successfully.

Unfortunately I suspect the chances of a GB lifter ever winning the Olympics are almost zero.

Is Crossfit any easier, or just as tough?

I'm sure he'd be good at anything if he so desired .....

Steve - I don't think it's as hard to win because in terms of weightlifting for example you have to be at the top of human performance for a given weight class to win ... Evident by how close the totals always are !

Where as crossfit you just have to be "good" at everything ... Untill the sport gets on a few years you maybe might see marathon runners at 84kf clean and jerking 230 but for now there good at everything not great !

Shane it was a mini triathlon, not a marathon, but still along the same lines.

Out of interest Marion Jones completed one of the open WODs this year - she was a long way off the top spots in the workout she did, which proves oohing really, other than it isn't easy, even for high level athletes to just step into it and expect to do well.

i train in a crossfit gym, i think the workouts are great, especially if you are new to excercise in general, and form is focused on a lot more than it ever was in my old gym, which can only be a good thing.

there are also very health levels of lycra on the females, but the trade of is lycra clad men.

you win some you lose some.
