I work as a boner Member 3115, 490 posts SQ 240, BP 140, DL 300680.0 kgs @ 132kgs Eq | What is you're preference of footware to squat in? I use Adidas ironworks 3 I feel they have a good heal and a firm base to both squat and do overhead in. Also would anyone of you recommend squatting in bare feet or shoes with a flat thin base without a heal in? The reason I ask is I saw a post on Facebook from (Raw Power Gym Ware) last night advertising there new squat boots), I thought these could be a good investment as a boot would save you're ankles a bit on a comp day. So before buying a pair I asked if they had a flat base and a wedge in the heal. The response I got was the base is flat and wafer thin but they didn't have a heal in. After this I private messaged them saying IMO they'd do better marketing them for deadlifting as a risen heal is a must for squatting. The reply I got to this was "if anyone needs a heal in there footware for squatting there doing it wrong and have poor form, and to squat you should do it in bare feet or shoes with thin soles and no heal". They also said they had been lifting for 23 years and because of this they knew what they were talking about and I don't! I did try and reply to this but before I could I'd been blocked by them.

what is everyone's fran time? Member 3986, 10443 posts SQ 340, BP 200, DL 400940.0 kgs @ 129kgs Eq | Loads of guys squat in converse which are flat soled, it's to sit back into the squat but I think it's more applicable if you wear a suit.

Aiming for a 250 squat by the end of 2012 Member 1989, 3168 posts SQ 240, BP 140, DL 270650.0 kgs @ 90kgs UnEq | I squat both barefoot and in oly shoes. I do feel more stable in oly shoes but I feel barefoot recruits more muscle and to stabilise the body. Any company that sends out that sort of reply are very silly and short sighted.

Some people squat better in converser flat shoes other people (like me and the mongs up in mongacaster) prefer shoes with heels! Pretty sure if you sent them hixxy 300 x 6 squat vid they'd struggle to complain about form! Personally I have the nike romaleo 2's and they're f**kin awesome! I can't squat heavy in flat shoe anymore!

embarrasingly poor bench Member 2684, 4043 posts SQ 240, BP 135, DL 275650.0 kgs @ 103kgs UnEq | I squat in either converse or my reebok high tops, both of which have flat heels. I personally find squatting in anything with a heel very awkward but thats just me. I dont think there is any particular footwear that is the best kind and it all comes down to what individual lifters feel comfortable in.

To be fair to them you're both wrong.. A heel is definitely not a must for squatting. I squat in flat soled trainers similar to vans/cons. If you squat with a wide stance then you generally don't need a heel. Metal squat boots and alot of others are flat soled. Narrow stance I would say you generally do need a heel BUT everyone is different!
