Mate, I have said it before, but you need to start doing some reps!! Wink I'd stay at 200 doing 5 sets of 3, with the aim to have them all going real fast off the floor. When you have done that move up 10KG etc

Only my opinion obviously, but I Know you are strong from 18", so the speed of the floor is the problem and for me this is the best way to remedy that

speed deadlift and platform deadlift will help

thanks for the advice lads. I guess I just want to change my technique and magically be able to deadlift 250. obviously not realistic. wayne - ive heard people say that about deadlift going up without training it but much as I would like it to it doesnt seem to work that way with me. I havent deadlifted regularly this year much and while every other lift has improved my dl numbers havent changed hardly at all. much as I hate to admit it I think the trapman is right, I just need to put more time into it. I think im always afraid itll take away from my event training (stones in particular).

if anything a strong deadlift and front squat will give you a stronger stone lift as well as a strong chest

That's why I don't often train barbell dead lifts. I have problems with recovery if I do, which eats into my other training. Farmer's dead lifts don't give me the same recovery issues. I guess I'm lucky that my dead lift CREEPS up without particularly having to focus on it. It would go up faster if I trained it harder, but to the detriment of other lifts, due to prolonged back soreness. By the way, I achieved my PB deep farmer's pick-up of 270Kg this morning! Did 2 singles. Went up easier than I thought.

One approach that I use is going up in SMALL (1Kg) increments. I've used that on barbell dead lifting in the past. If you lift, for example, 220 one week, go for 221 the next week, etc.

Some of my training methods could be considered unorthodox, but they work for me!

for deads I was thinking of doing that russian dl routine I did last year but off a platform and with lower percentages so I dont f**k myself up. any thoughts?

Training today:

2" Axle push press (from the rack):

60kg x 5
80kg x 3
100kg x 2
110kg x 1
117.5kg x 1
122.5kg x 1 - PB sweet rep, felt easy Happy
125kg x fail - head wasnt in it
100kg x 8 + 1 fail Angry

2" Axle power clean:

60kg x 4
70kg x 3
80kg x 2
90kg x 2 fails
90kg x 1
100kg x fail

pleased with this. pushies felt so so until the 122.5 which just flew up. wasnt going to try 125 but the last rep went up so easy I thought I may as well. head wasnt in it though and missed it. im sure if I had hit it as sweetly as the 122.5 it would have gone but itll have to wait for another day. getting pissed off with the 100 for reps though. im desparate to nail 10 but I just run out of gas at 8 every time! axle cleans felt better technique wise up until the 90s where it all went to s**t.

Good lifting. My push press PB is also 122.5Kg! That was with a standard bar though. Is there much difference between pressing a 1" and 2" bar?

thanks wayne! I think most would say 2" is harder. but because I do all my pressing with the axle I find it harder on an oly bar. I guess its just what youre used to.

Solid PB will, edging it up! You don't look like you dip/jerk as much as you used to. Is this coz you tend to separate push pressing, and push jerking now, or maybe it was just the camera angle?

thanks lads! brian - yes I treat them as separate lifts. my best push jerk is 127.5 but I was only push pressing 115 back then so im hopeful ive got 130 at least when I get back into jerking. I thought I better work on my pushies as viking press came up quite a bit in comps last year.
