as i became an adult it was to be bigger and stronger. now its to chase my dads numbers at a lot lighter BW

I remember mal kaye...i got on his shoulder at bsm!!
(i was bigger back then too...strong man!!)

Muscle and Co was great - I remember an article about Dorian before turned pro - called return of the shadow - black and white photos including him doing pushdowns that were so heavy he had a dip belt and a 90lb dumbell attached so he wasn't lifted up ! Dorian had a 1300lb calf raise machine !
Marvel comics and bodybuilders were the motivators for me as a kid .

I'm glad someone else remembers Muscle & Co! Grin

I saw Manfred Hoeberl at a Highland Games around 1992-3, I wouldn't say I was inspired (as I was a skinny wannabe footballer) but I was certainly like "what the f**k!", can't remember anything about the games only his bandana and arms!

As with a lot of people, it was Arnie.

I'm pretty sure it was total recall in particular.

Got into weights through van damme films never managed the splits across chairs though.

Always liked wsm on telly but it was probably Ben France got me into to strongman as i knew him from my bodybuilding days and always wanted to give it a go and once I saw he was doing well as a then 90kg person like me I realised you didnt need to be 20+ stone to give it a go.

Same here. I came across a video of his when I was first trying to kick a drug habit and it inspired me to get off them and get in shape.

Which one person, famous or not has inflenced you into a life of iron and why ?

It was me who influenced myself into lifting, I started to train to get stronger for golf then met 2 powerlifters and started training at their club, then met the guys from Adlington at a comp at Thorncross and started training there.

For me it was arnie and Stallone... In the film commando, at the beginning, walking around with a tree on his shoulder lol.
I was only young at the time when I first see this film. It made me want to be able to walk around with a tree on my shoulder when I "grew up"!!!

And also Rocky IV. When he started his training in Russia. Great motivational film and soundtrack. Still listen to some songs from this film on the way to gym now lol!

I was probably influenced by a combination of people. As with a lot of people I was a child of the eighties and grew up watching things like the A Team with Mr T and seeing him throw people around, plus film stars of the time Arnie, Sly, Dolph Lundgren etc. Also when I was at school I got picked on alot because I was quite short and stocky so started going to the gym and just fell in love with everything iron related. Watched WSM for as long as I can remember and BSM when it used to be televised, but never dreamt I would be able to train for it or even compete until I saw a 5'8" beast by the name of Darren Sadler destroying the bigger guys which inspired me.
