there arn't many who can snatch less than 80 Wink (joking bby) xx

Yeah snatch is safe, I still get to be impressed by decent snatches without having to worry about if I am lieing to myself or not. That might be why I like weightlifting so much...because I'm s**t and actually representative of the way I feel about myself when I do a snatch!

Oh and it's 92.5!

snatch is one of them, I'm impressed by people who can lift less OR more

for example watching a 13 year old girl clean and jerk 93kg or one of my training buddies snatch a PB not so much the weight more its astetics!

It would be much healthier to just be happy with our achievements I think...

Thats a thought actually, beautiful technique does definitely impress me regardless of the weight, on any exercise! In fact it's more impressive than the actual weight to me most of he time.

When I first started, it was all about being able to deadlift 200kg and squat 1.5 times bodyweight. For most people this is achievable and certainly nothing special in the grand scheme of things but probably still better than a very large % of the population.

Once I got past those figures, and I started wondering "what if?", I reached that place where there is satisfaction but then it's time to move onto the next target.

And that's what keeps me driven tbh.

Im never satisfied with my strength. Reasons being:

A) Im not strong

B) The minute you become satisfied, is the minute you stop improving.

When you're on the downhill slide and the chance of lifetime PB's come less and less.

Not surprisingly the older people who've posted on here (myself, Boar, Wayne and Pete) all appear to be fairly content with our current 'lot'.

Never being happy with your lifts is not a particularly healthy attitude to have in my opinion. From 2000 to 2006 I made slow but steady progress to the point where my lifts were starting to look fairly good at my bodyweight. I never thought I was particularly strong, was always aiming for more, and never fully appreciated just how good things were going in the gym. No injuries, consistent progress, happy balance between gym and life yet all I could think about was more weight on the bar, bigger numbers and quicker progress.

The following year I tore my hamstring and for the following 5 years spend rehabbing it. During that cling back toward former strength levels I then started to realise just how far I had come in 2006. I'm still not back to my previous bests on some lifts, but at the time I just couldn't see that.

You could say when you're lifting "x" weight then you'll be happy; but I'd say is what is the point in lifting if you're not going to be happy with it?

Very surprising. Not because of the weight, but because you've already come through an injury which put you on your ass. I would have thought that would change your perspective on things.

Lots of unsatisfied people here! Does it reduce quality of life to never be what you want to be? As slimsim suggested, age is probably a factor. As you get older you become less testosterone fuelled and priorities change. I've never had much of an ego though. I'm strong enough to be an also ran in a strongman comp (the fun/social side of it is what interests me) and probably not get beaten up, and that's plenty good enough for me. I'm not going to lose any sleep over my inability to dead lift 400kg! Happy

I still have fun with it and have made lots of new mates from training. I get satisfied with what I do, but then look to the next target/session/PB.
