Do you think if someone could somehow lie to you and make you believe you are only lifting 95% of your max, but in reality you're lifting your PB+5kg, you'd easily smash it ?

Tried this once, pretty sure the guy almost ripped a pec trying to get the bench up. So no I wouldn't do that again, as I felt like a bit of a prick after.

Though he did get a PR.

wud depend on the type of lifter i think. someone who usualy leaves a bit in the tank or only attempts pbs wen there pretty certain they'll hit it wud be able too no doubt as the main factor in their limits is their confidence. however a lifter that really knows their boundaries usualy has pushed to the absolute limit to get their current pbs

hope some of that made sense

I sometimes try and convince myself that the weight is lighter than it is. Does work sometimes.

Yes Davy Cummings is a prime example as his brain fails the lift before his body does.

Cheers mate, yeah, all lifts are easier if I dont know what they are Roll-Eyes

A few of my PBs have been done just getting someone to load the bar with something and me lifting it then finding out what it was. It often feels 20-30kg lighter than if i know what it was

snap - but as I said in another thread i am a lifter who is governed by own beliefs and often talk myself out of making a lift - especially with deadlifts!!!
