All sports need to be played on an even playing field. Either get tough with testing or allow whatever they want to take. Every sport has cheats

But it's the drugs which allowed him to do the training.

Without artificial assistance it wouldn't have been possible for him to be "training like mother...er"

Didnt they say if armstrong lost all his titles there would only be one person from his reign that could take the titles as he was the only podium athlete to not get busted for PEDs

Which I guess is why the UCI have decided that nobody will be awarded the Tour wins in Armstrong's place.

I've enjoyed watching Sugden's attitude switch to one of agreeing that he needs to be killed.

Lol what? People who don't take drugs can still train very f**king hard. Like a lot of people I know. Drugs don't improve your mentality and make u think "ooh yeah I'll train harder now" - you have to want success, drugs or no drugs. Yes they'll have helped him recover etc whatever else. But he still wanted it, and probably trained harder than a lot of people. It's not right what he's done, but he's not alone so.

You can train hard naturally but the drugs will help you recover faster, so you can go a 100% the next day again. its harder to overtrain when on.

His PED use is the least of his worries. According to the La Gazzetta there is a mounting pile of evidence of tax evasion by a number of riders, including Armstrong (hilariously, the Italians take this s**t seriously...), Sporting fraud is a crime in France, and he has sworn on oath that he hasnt taken PEDs.

David Millar's account of the French authorities going after his finances is quite interesting. If they treat Lance the same, he's in for a rough ride....

I have mixed feelings on it.

He has cheated, so stripping him of his titles is fine, others have lost theirs retrospectively as well, so in that respect its fair enough. He has been caught, he should have to give back the prize money too, fair enough, if they also did, and others caught also will? (I am not sure if others had to give back money yet?)

I disagree with the "deserves to be forgotten" part.

He was a massive part of the sport, and should not be forgotten. Drugs or no drugs, he was an incredible athlete and dominated the sport when it was at its peak of both preformance and usage. All the riders are tarnished, the period on the sport is tarnished, but he should not be forgotten any more than any other rider.

The "They all cheated, but he cheated more" argument is a bit of a red herring imo.

Yeah correct, I agree. But you could take drugs and train like a crippled 60 year old if you couldn't be arsed. You wouldn't win 7 TDF's then. Depends what context "train like a mother f**ker" is taken as I suppose. I like to think I (sometimes Grin) train like a motherf**ker, PED free.

Drugs allow you to train harder - without them you simply couldn't recover between hard workouts. So whilst of course non drug users train hard, they simply cannot train as hard as users (if all other variables are the same)

They also allow you to perform better - EPO for example, increases the bloods ability to carry oxygen which is clearly a huge benefit in aerobic exercise.

And actually you're completely wrong. Drugs which have an effect on testosterone will make you want to train harder - increased levels improve your confidence and aggression and drive which will all have a significant effect on your training. It's not at all uncommon to see the lifter, who was previously in the gym just three, suddenly wanting to train ever day after starting taking drugs.
