I think those are good comp numbers for your goals, Roberto - because with those numbers you SHOULD go 9/9, which would give you 500 and 4 PBs. Makes a load of sense.

saw the vids, the 182 looked the easiest of all the squats on the day, can't be far off 200 I reckon.

Like I was saying before Rob, 190 is not at all unrealistic for you. I guess with it being your first competition being conservative is a sensible strategy but if you were going all out I think 170/180/190 would be eminently gettable.

Rob I think your squat attempts are crazy.

By all means do an easy 170 opener then nail a good second lift(185), this leaves the path open for a 190 attempt.

The way the 182.5 went up there is easily the strength for 185, thats not taking into consideration the buzz that the day will add to your lifts.

170/185/190

Cheers lads (and welcome to the site Wigan, no longer a secret lurker - good stuff!).

Tony - I see where you're coming from and I don't disagree that I'm sure there is more in the squat then I've put down as my lifts, but I'm just taking this competition as learning experience. There will be plenty of other comps later in the year where I can go all out if I want to. Aiming for 500 (and thus 4 PBs as Rick pointed out) isn't exactly taking it easy anyway!

Great squatting, proper depth and the 182 was smooth and solid looking.

I agree with Alan about the speed. As long as you can control the weight it's fine, you don't need to pause so you can take advantage of the stretch reflex - which as we know from benching, can add a fair bit of power.

You're good for 190 surely, but I appreciate why you might not want to go for it, 9/9 is a good goal, would be a shame to ruin it by being overzealous. As you say there're plenty of other comps.

18th April, Bench, Adlington

Dynamic Stretching
5 mins

Bench Paused
20 x 20 x 2
40 x 8
55 x 5
70 x 5
80 x 3
90 x 1
95 x 3

2 Boards
100 x 5

Seated Face Pulls
12.5 x 15 x 4

Miniband Pushdowns
50 x 2

Hammer Curls
20lbs x 20 x 2

Stretching
10 mins

Left elbow didn't really want to do anything heavy, so left it there. Cumulative effect of heavy squats and pressing no doubt, just needs some rest.

Plan until comp will now be this:

Thursday: Deadlift (195x2,202.5x1), Abs
Monday: Squat (160x1), Light GMs
Wednesday: Bench (95x1), Light Assistance
Friday: Cardio or empty bar work.. something to stay loose
Sunday: Comp

Weighed in at 109.8 on Andy's scales in my training gear, so should be fine to be under 110 come the morning of the comp (providing I have a good dump beforehand).
