I was wondering if anyone has suffered from an ulner nerve injury and if so what kind of treatment did you receive, length of time out of training and if it causes any problems now.

I have the problem with my left wrist its on the out side of my wrist between my hand and the wrist bone, iv also been informed that iv lost about 10 percent rotation.

It makes gripping a flat bar more or less impossible which can be a problem training bi's even using an EZ bar can be painfull more or less like an electric shock through my hand but i dont have this problem hammer curling. Iv also had to change my deadlift grip to both overhand.

Im back at the docs in September and hopefully they can finally give me the full diagnosis and form of treatment required but as expected its been a very long drawn out process.

Sorry for the rant but any information would be greatly appreciated

Might be worth being checked for carpel tunnel syndrome. But if you're sure it's the nerve, I've had similar problems since my distal bicep tendon rupture surgery as the nerve is disturbed during the operation to reattach. Whats helped me a lot, although not back to full supination yet (palm up) is an exercise the physio gave me with a plyometric band which is effectively a large thing elastic band. I wrap it around the hand of my bad arm and hold the other end with my good arm and basically what it does is provide resistance to me supinating my hand so it's twisting against resistance. Difficult to describe in words! Ask a doctor or physio or even Google about plyometric exercises.

Yeah i got checked for carpel tunnel and had physio on the wrist but because of the nerve when i done the physio on the wrist it would cause the nerve to flair up.

Iv had an MRI done on the wrist but they dont tell you anything until its gone to a radiographer and i had nerve testing done which is no fun at all sending loads of electric shocks through your arm and hands by a woman who i think only spoke a couple words of english and just smiled every time she shocked me lol.

Im hoping to find out in september what course of treatment they are going to take im just a little concerned as iv put my name down for my first comp and im on the reserve list for October.

Do you compete or did you have surgery done and if so what kind of impact has it had on your training also length of recovery before you were more or less back to full training.

Just a couple of novice competitions bud. Recovery still on going really, had the op to reattach about 4 months ago, the injury itself (touches wood) seems to be fine, main issues seem to be not full range of supination yet and painfull nerves in lower arm which were disturbed during op. But they are a heck of a lot better than they were initially and don't cause too many problems now. My pressing strength (or lack of it!) isn't a problem, I can bench, do shoulder presses etc just fine. But similar to you, causes a lot of pain to do barbell curls for example or any bicep work due to turning the hand out so far. But it's getting there, hope to be back to training arms by end of the year, can do back lightly fine really. But the surgeon did say that it could take a year for the nerves to settle down and that's if I stayed away from the gym! Best advice I can give you is train in a way that doesn't involve forced supination such as barbell curls and if you must train biceps directly, do them with hands in an EZ bar position and lightly.

Yeah i keep it light on EZ bar depending how the nerve feels.

Fingers crossed that the injury dont stop me before iv even started my attempt at strongman lol

Good luck with the recovery and with your training and thannks for the advice.

I never would of guessed what it was until now - I just figuredit was a trapped nerve or similar. I think people thought I was going mad when I said I felt a painful electric shock when rotating my hand.
