Hello People

I am in my 20s and my mother is currently waiting on the long and depressing line for a kidney transplant until recently she refused to take my kidney but her health and sanity is going down hill so I finally talked her into letting me give her one of my kidneys.

I wanted to ask if anyone has given a kidney to any family members? And if so how where you after the operation and how long before you lifted weights again?

I am not afraid of going under the knife as its for my mum but I am afraid of being the totally weak skinny kid again because it has taken me months to recover?Doctors are saying I could take anywhere from 3-12 weeks to recover it depends on the individual.

If anyone has done this I would be grateful for advice

I have nothing helpful to add mate. But what an incredible thing to do, when it comes right down to it, actions like this show the measure of a man.

I tip my hat to you.

I'm in a similar position with my mum mate, except in our case, liver. A genetic illness. I was all set to be in a position to donate only to find out that I have an earlier stage of the same illness. I wish you and your mum all the best and hope all goes well, you can live happily without any problems with one kidney. It enlarges to compensate.

Sorry to hear about your mum!And I hope you will be ok too mate

Thank you for the kind words.I am sure we will both be fine in the end. My mum will actually be out of hospital before me after the operation I will have to stay in for 4-8 days but this is nothing compared what she has had to endure over the past 3 years....

I am sure you know the stress it puts on the whole family....
