Does anyone wear a gum shield when training?
After yesterdays workout, my jaw is a bit sore and can only theorise that I am grinding my teeth whilst lifting.
Would a gum shield help at all?

Head into jjb buddy. They're doing a mouthguard right now by a company that produces them for athletics as well as contact sports. The "mouthpiece" is smaller, less invasive and designed strictly so that you can bite down whilst exerting yourself.

I use one for my top sets else I grind my teeth. I've actually broken a tooth that way. Gum sheild takes a little getting used to but I wouldn't go back.

wen i go heavy i have to, i grit my teeth really hard, years of biting down on a gumsheild (and lots of eating) given me strong jaw muscles, and i have fillings in some of my teeth and its given me sensitive teeth so i have to use a gum sheild. im used to it from years of fighting, i find it helps with breathing, other guys tend to find it a hinderance. i find the type of gumsheild helps, you do get what u pay for, i got dentist made for £35, perfect fit and had it years, ive also tried your £2.99 from sports ditect and your shock doctors and i find not only are they a pain in the ass to mould, they can become loose fitting and due to unnatural shape be a hinderance, only way to find out is get on. if you can afford it, get a dentist one mate, worth the pay out in my opinion

opro are pretty good, take a mould of your teeth with the kit they send you, then send it away, and a week later you have a perfect fitting mouthguard, about 30-40 quid depending how colourful you want it

The idea of a "non-contact" mouthguard starts alarm bells ringing straight away; the fact it is £40 suggests it comes with a packet of magic beans.

I do, however, have a crash helmet for sale if anyone is interested. It is purely ornamental and has slight damage from a nerf gun, but is yours for £350. Wink

If what it says it does is true then its a bargain.

They claim:

up to 20% increase in strength
up to 25% reduction in lactic acid
up to 12% increase in reaction time

am I right to be just a little sceptical? Roll-Eyes
