Probably less to do with actual sport than to do with underlying feelings of underachievement in a lot of cases and the downturn in a sportsmen's career. Of course, there are probably loads of other reasons as well. I would say so. The only high profile sporting suicide I can think of in my lifetime before now is Justin Fasanua We also had Terry Newton kill himself in 2010 at the age of 32(?)

Also top footballers almost live in a fantasy land with the massive riches so once they are done with that and back to normality it must be a massive shock to there systems.

I think with some of the more recent high profile cases its recieving more attention which can only be positive if someone like Dean Windass can come out and ask for some help. Flintoff did a documentary thing on it the other day, talking to Hatton and Harmison, was a bit of an eye opener.

It can be a positive thing to have goals, strive to be your best etc but also can run you down with thinking winning is only true meaning to life, judging your self worth by positions etc. I went into what I am sure now was depression and coming out other side with some help was best thing that ever happened in some ways. I now view life with a bit of perspective
