Not sure how many miles Jonny, took 4.5 hours each way with a stop off.

I didn't get a cigar, but I did get some protein, creatine, a shaker and a trophy!

hey how s**tty is that speed camera thing! Surely they must make exceptions to strongmen who are nearly missing their comp Wink Sorry to hear about that man - that tops it all off.

Hey, lessons learned, and all that. Fast is not always the best way, and contest preparation and focus sound like the most important lessons of them all. In all, i would take those as valuable lessons which you now dont have to repeat on contests which really matter.

Hows your shins doing mate? Is the plan to take a brak from walking events for a while still on?

Thanks Joni.

The shin is still a bit sore, but I think a week or two without walking events should let it heal up. I may start doing some toe raises too.

Valuable lessons have been learned:

1, Don't drive and compete on the same day, too much for my frail body to handle.

2, EAT something! Energy drinks and jelly babies are going to be in abundance at the next comp.

3, Train the events for the comp - no point doing heavy short farmers when the comp is farmers for distance etc.

4, Get some goddamn conditioning. I'd personally prefer heavier contests, but a lot of comps now require a high level of conditioning (which although people assume I have - I don't!). So conditioning work will become a staple of my training.

5, Think more - less of the bull-in-a-china-shop syndrome and concentrate more on what I should be doing (without rushing things).

That should stand me in good stead.

Some good points there Jonny. Especially no.3 - i thought this myself about future comps, generally the events/weights are known plenty in advance so it makes sense to gear all training directly towards them.

no.2 - remember, food just equals more to come up when puking before/after events Happy

Maybe we can arrange a dungeon/edinburgh training session in the next few months, either up here or down at yours? What comp are you aiming at next?

Nice one Buzz - it's on! (We choose the events thoughTongue )

Not really felt great this week, head not really in it (or today either), but at least I got a session in and am feeling optimistic about getting back into it properly now.

11/3

Log
70kg x 3,3
80kg x 2
85kg x 1
90kg x 1,x
95kg x 1,x
95kg x 2 All over the place today - not good.

Farmers holds
120kg x 50 seconds - not good, not bad but at least something to build on. The good thing is that it wasn't my grip that gave out, it was my body so hopefully I should see some nice improvement here.

60mm axle
75kg for a few cleans and presses, then just deadlifts
115kg x 3 doible overhand
125kg x 1 DO
130kg x 1 DO
135kg x x
160kg x 8 mixed grip (misload - thought this was 180)
180kg x 4 mixed grip

Sled drag (on grass!)
150kg x 20m approx 45-50 seconds?

Not too bad in the end, got my head sorted out now. Joni and Olly had great days, Joni 95kg log, 195 squat, 43 secs on the farmers holds and a top effort on the medley, Olly 90kg log, 130kg farmers holds for 55 secs, 200kg x 3 axle deads and a top effort on the medley. Looking forwards to next week already.

you can also read it to mean: we will dictate the volume Wink So eat your oats mate, you are going to need the energy Grin

Hey reading back everything you did Milsy that was not a bad comeback session at all!

Forgot to ask you, are there any sundays you cant do for sure in the next month or two?

Looking forward to the next sunday already mate! Was thinking: loads of overhead work and stones... And the sled of course Wink

What do you reckon to attaching the V-bar to a loading pin and training the walk of pain that way? I reckon it could be just the ticket!

thats it mate! Though it is better if we could get the weight with 15s, 10s and 5s rather than wide 20s.

100kg walk of pain coming up next sunday!

Well im pretty sure there are enough plates to do that. If there arent then using 20s wouldnt be a problem, might make it a little easier come comp day.

Buzz - no such thing as a friendly training session together - prepare for war! Wink

Joni when I look back I suppose it wasn't that bad a session, just 1 rep shy of my best on the log, a reasonable farmers hold time, just playing wityh the axle and the sled srag wasn't too bad.

Good job you mentioned this - I'm OK for the next 2 weeks, but the week after (the week before Easter weekend) I can't do the Sunday (but could do the Saturday), and I can't do any of the weekend after, but am off 2 weeks for Easter so could do the Fri/Tuesday or something like that. We can discuss this week.

We can have a play about with the v handle/loading pin - sounds like a good idea!

Bench press
warm up to 120kg then put on shirt (44 Katana)
130kg x 1
150kg x 1
160kg x 1
175kg x 1

All of them were absolutely nowhere near touching. A good 4 inches off at least. Shirt off:
130kg x 1
135kg x 1
140kg x 1
Close grip 100kg x 10

BB rows
100kg x 8
130kg x 8

Wide grip chins
BW x 8
+20kg x 6
+35kg x 6

Hammer curls
27.5kg x 7

Sun 18/3 Strongman Sunday!!

Log press
70kg x 3
80kg x 2
85kg x 1
90kg x 1
95kg x 1
100kg x 1
100kg x 2 PB
90kg x 4

Didn't feel too great today, so pleased with the PB

Farmers holds
130kg x 48 seconds PB

Stones (to 54 inches, no tacky)
105kg x x
105kg x x Damn I hate these high platforms!!
105kg x 1
130kg x 1
140kg x missed it about 4-5 times. It's not heavy, it's just bloody high!

Finished pissed off, but other than the stones it was pretty decent I suppose.

It wasn't fun losing on the stones to Olly and Joni though, not fun at all. So I'm not a happy bunny, but to be fair they both had great sessions and deserve the results for all the hard work they put in. Bring on next week.

Nice to meet Alex too - the boy sure is persistant!!
