Like any diet you have to eat less cals than you consume, so it's likely you will lose muscle as well as fat. Ergo, you'll likely lose a bit of strength.

Lowcarb diets are fantastic for fat loss but most people seem to struggle with exercising/lifting when lowcarb. See how you feel, but it might be best to use the diet to lose the fat, accept a bit of strength loss, then revert to eating some carbs after.

If you haven't done lowcarb before, you'll most likely feel terrible until your body fully adapts to burning fat.

It can be very cheap to eat keto tbh especially with what some lads will spend on there dinner break at a local shop !

Hixxy bulk buys chicken, eggs and these dalepak frozen lambs and also veg and pretty much lives off that for 10 weeks or so leading upto a comp !

It is suggested that eating a low carb diet actually allows you to consume more calories and still loose weight.

My advice would be to lower carbs as much as you can without noticing energy drop. E.g if you feel ok eat veery low but one day might feel out of energy so eat Some more just keep an eye and minimise them . Add in a bit of cardio or lower rest times in gym

I think that's a misconception. Law of thermodynamics, or something.

Why the law of thermodynamics doesn't apply in the way that is being suggested

Interesting article, thanks. The science lost me a bit about half way through Happy

Can you explain to me, in simple terms, how my body would end up with reduced body fat, if I am consuming fat/protein to a caloric excess?

If you consume protein and fat to excess I'm sure you wouldn't loose weight.

What I think is being suggested is that the actual amount of calories you can consume before it becomes excessive is greater than when your calories are coming from carbs. ie. one calorie form carbs is not the same as one calorie form fat or protein.

agreed steve.. it takes more calories for you body to process protein than carbs...

plus your body responds to carbs with insulin (fat storage hormone) it doesn't when consuming fat... thus less circulating insulin telling your body to store fat..

There is no metabolic advantage (MAD), sorry to say. I used to be be pro-lowcarb but now it's clear that low-car is probably best for middle-aged fat diabetics and not hard training athletes. By that I mean all of the existing research has shown that low-carb is bad for athletes, not necessarily just endurance athletes, I mean people that train hard in general.

Read some Anthony Colpo for all manner of low-carb/MAD debunkery. He even has a 93+ page free e-book that goes thoroughly into the subject. http://www.thefatlossbible.net/They_Are_All_Mad.pdf

Hmmm, I've recently reduced carbs a lot after reading the Taubes book. This fella says it's all bollox. What methods does he prescribe for losing weight?
