As promised, and for anyone who is interested, here is brief vid of my customised squat bar in action. I'm comfortable with my depth as I'm not a powerlifter and will never compete in powerlifting. This form is enabling me to gain a lot of lower body strength and stamina so it's all good. I know the poor technique police patrol this forum but I'm not trying to claim a world record squat here.

This set is 210kg for 10 reps - squat bar is 60kg empty and 3x 25kg oly plates each side.

There was definitely more there but it was a long train so I was content with 10.

It's really comfortable for me and I've gone from squatting once in a blue moon to squatting religiously on a weekly basis so it's a very positive step for me mate.

I know... very fetching aren't they!!! They encourage me to squat mate as I've been enjoying watching my legs grow over the last few months so that's good enough for me. It'll be a cold day in hell before I wear them to Tescos though!

I had this version made at a local fabricators. I did have a prototype made using scaffolding and much thinner vertical plate just to see if I it would be successful in terms of me starting to enjoy squatting and develop a much stronger set of legs. It was and it did so I had a heavy duty version made - prototype 2 in vid. I still have the first draft but may cut it down and use parts for future projects.

What was the main reason you made a custom bar? Do you have a shoulder mobility problem that does not allow you to grip a normal bar? If you train alone obviously it's a bit safer if you get into trouble.
