No more Scottish comps this year (although the Tri Nations is in Scotland and there's the Commonwealths in December) and 2012 calendar not finalized yet. I'll keep you posted.

First point - great challenge that should even out the age and weight difference. I'm well up for that. Second point, Andy's not GBPF Scotland where I lift, he's SPA, where I don't. Wink

Supposedly a gentle speed bench session today after the exertions of yesterday, but I got sucked into finding 1RM with the small blue band. Band on from the outset on every set.

Bar for 10
60 for 8
80 for 4
100 for 2
120 for 1
140 for 1
150 for 1
155 - abject fail.

A bit of speed to finish, still with band on

100 for 3 x 6 sets.

Stupid to go heavy two days running I guess, but then again maybe a change is as good as a rest. We laughed during the session till our abs ached, wish I could tell you why but I can't, not sure if it helped, hindered, or made no difference.

So my band 1RMs are

1 big blue band - 135
2 big blue bands - 80
1 red band - 140
1 small blue band - 150.

Reckon there's another five in the 2 big blues and also with the red because I failed higher numbers after trying a jump of 10. Probably 85 and 145 respectively. We go again Saturday morning...

Deadlifts

60 for 5
110 for 3
155 for 1
180 - fail
180 - fail

s**t, s**t, s**t! Nothing there today. As punishment, went to the sports centre gym late afternoon

Lat Pulldowns - sets of 10 with 40, 50, 60, 70, 65, 60, 55, 50
Ab Machine - sets of 10 with 15, 25, 35, 50, 60, 70
Facepulls - sets of 10 with 25, 35, 45, 40, 40
Cross Trainer - 10 minutes
Then shower, steam, sauna, shower, steam, shower.

Very tired, but very clean.

Bench at mine with Tom and Jon

Bar for 20
40 for 10
60 for 8
80 for 5
100 for 3
120 for 2
140 for 1

To 5.25 inch boards

160 for 3
170 for 2
185 - fail

With 2 small blue bands

40 for 5
65 for 3
105 for 1
125 for 1
135 - fail

The idea of using the two small blues was to find out the added tension of one, as we did 150 plus one on Wednesday. I missed the 135 but Tom got it and then failed his next weight, so allowing for me being fatigued and my left shoulder being a bit tweaky on the 125, that makes the small blue band about an extra 15 at the top, maybe 17.5 at a push. Speed tomorrow, then rest up till Wednesday, by which time the new shirt should be here.

Not a great session, a bit of a grinder, but it's a bit like a marathon runner putting in the miles. I worked to my limit, just that the limit was slightly lower than I would have liked.

Didn't do my speed session yesterday. General fatigue plus tweaking my shoulder on my last rep on Saturday led me to make Sunday a day of rest. From the gym, that is. Took the dogs out for hours and we trekked across moorland and called in at a couple of beaches on the way home.

Today, I went to the sports centre to do some assistance work

Lat Pulldowns - sets of 10 with 40, 50, 60, 60, 60, 60, 60
Facepulls - sets of 10 with 30, 40, 40, 40, 40, 40
Ab Machine - sets of 10 with 20, 40, 60, 60, 60, 60, 60
Arm Curl Machine - sets of 10 with 20, 30, 30, 30, 30, 30
Cross Trainer - 1 km in 15'31.

The cross trainer confuses me. I worked pretty hard (by my feeble standards) for 15 and a half minutes to cover 1000 metres, worked up a sweat and got my heart rate up to 145. But I'm sure I could saunter round an athletics track two and a half times in under 10 minutes without breaking sweat. So I'm sure it was more than 1K in reality, but I'll continue to record the machine figures to record progress.

Finished with shower, steam, jacuzzi, sauna, steam, shower and came home cleaner than an angel's mind.

Off to walk the dogs along the beach in 50 mph winds now. The waves should be fun...

Not the session I wanted today. Think I'm going down with something, plus the shoulder still hurts a bit from Saturday - damn.

Bar for 20
60 for 8 x 2 sets
80 for 5
100 for 3
120 for 2
140 for 1

170 for 2 (7 in board)
170 for 2 (5.5 in board).

Left it there. No fight, worried about shoulder. Doing some coaching at 6 and might join in for some speed work. Or might not.

Is it a regular feeling with the shoulder or something new? Hope you get it sorted.

I've not had trouble with it this year Neil, but it's never been 100% since the injury and I tweaked it doing heavy bands on Saturday. Tbh it's more the cold or whatever I've got that did for me today. Feel a temperature coming on in the last hour, so at least whatever it is is coming out. Better now than Luxembourg. Happy

Bench

Trained with Tom and Jon. Not trained since Wednesday. Combination of resting my shoulder and feeling a bit below par. No real training plan for today, let's just see how the shoulder feels and how weak I am.

Using pinkie grip to protect shoulder

Bar for 20
40 for 10
60 for 8
80 for 5
100 for 4
120 for 2
140 for 1

Titan Ram on, back to normal grip

160 for 1

Slingshot on

170 for 1
180 for 1

Finish.

Shoulder not bad Happy Decided the Ram's not for me, it slides up my arms and comes to rest near my neck. Slingshot much better. 170 was a bit tentative, 180 was a pearler. Left it there, shoulder not bad, speed tomorrow.
