Should all comps have the same mix of static/moving events, or is it a good thing that there are comps with different emphasis?

Discuss.

I think if we have lots of choice of different comps the individual person can choose one which suits them best

variety is good

I prefer 90s style WSM, loads of running around, with a max 18inch thrown in, but arnolds style is cool too

I don't like the way everything is getting heavier though, tyres, farmers, yoke, soon if you ain't 180kgs bodyweight and pulling 400+ you won't be able to play at the top level, and I like watching comps where everyone has strengths and weaknesses

i prefer static events (to do and watch) but think moving events will always have their place.

i like what milsy said about max everything comps but then its a bit like a powerlifting meet and quite boring for some people watching who ask things like '400kg deadlift, is that good?'

Mine would be
No deadlift

Anything else is fine Wink

My choice would be
Pressing medley with reps on last event
Yoke 20m fasted time
Farmers max distance
Keg toss
Truck unit arm over arm with push back
Max deadlift
Atlas stones

i think a variety of comps would be better than a variety of events, so have the odd comp static/max events, another all moving events, and the majority being both at different ratios. for example 4/5 events static 1/5 moving, then 3/5 n 2/5, 2/5 n 3/5 and a 1/5 static and 4/5 moving. but thats jus me, all in all varied event comps r better than jus static or movement if it was 1 or the other but doin a mixture of mixed comps n the odd static 1 here n there wouldnt hurt, wud it? but again a good mixture shows overall strength, so the answer to the question depends on what people want to measure, static strength or overall strength.

there is merit in a lighter comp which is more 'hi rep' orientated ....

not crossfit but not strongman ...REPPING !!

you would say this!

I'd like to see more tactic based events, eg. rep with heavy weight is 2 points, rep with light weight is 1 point etc etc

How would that work? Points are based on placings, which is a good way of making sure each event is of equal value.

There is already tactics in strongman. One example is deciding which order to attempt objects in.

Sorry, I'm being thick. The points scored in the event would translate to placings.

Still not keen on the idea though.

as jimmy says really, points per "implement", then added up and workout event points from that table.

I dont know exactly... but something with more tactics than just what order to do stuff in..... maybe an optional event which could make or break a comp... eg... random event only promotor knows what but something like a heavy stone or crowd pleaser.... stick this in a sealed envelope, people can opt in for double points or opt out.
dunno just thinking out loud

What he means is you have say 3 different weight logs say 100 = 1 point 120 = 2 points 140 =3 point you have 60 seconds and most points wins the event

Does adjusting the established format add value to a comp??

Keep it simple!
