JohnGym | Rest between sets | 02-08-2011 @ 12:46
Hamstrings feel activated. Member 1107, 6964 posts SQ 220, BP 152.5, DL 252.5625.0 kgs @ 93kgs UnEq | I have asked this question in my journal but nobody ever goes in there so I will ask here and hope for a response My training has recently got harder as the weights are steadily ramping up. Due to the increased intensity, I have been forced to take longer rests between sets. Today, I took 3 minutes between set 1 and set 2. I took 4 minutes between set 3 and set 4. I took 5 minutes between set 4 and set 5. Set 5 is my final heavy set. I have a two questions: Would you say the rest periods I take are too long, too short or just right? How much rest do you usually take between your penultimate set and final set? Thanks.

a splendid chap, unlike some bitches on here Member 1670, 1705 posts SQ 190, BP 112.5, DL 220522.5 kgs @ 89.5kgs UnEq | When it gets heavy, I take a minimum of 5 minutes, often more if I'm working in with a few people. Rest until you think you're ready for the next set, especially if you're going heavy.

I try and keep the rest on assistance to just enough, wouldn't say I'm rushing but I'm not hanging around either I think people spend far too much time sitting around being lazy and try and justify it with some pseudo science.

I just see so many people take twice as long for a workout than is necessary and justify it with some bo***cks they read on t-rag. I do think rushing the heavy stuff is stupid too mind you.

Uk limbo dancing champion Member 2666, 6551 posts SQ 202, BP 170, DL 255627.0 kgs @ 88kgs UnEq | i take around 5 minutes for heavy sets, if a set feels abit easy then i dont rest as long. i think the best thing is to take as long as you feel you need. your reps should tell you if youve had enough rest, for example if u only get 3-4 reps on something u usually get 5 on, take an extra minute or so, if ur still gettin the target amount of reps then your rest time is ok
