Quick question - do you think my little peugeot 206 will cope with my fat ass and 300kg of plates I intend to buy from Birmingham (I'm just North of London) ??

I'll spread the weight around - front seat, front footwell, rear seats as well as the boot.

What do you think ?

I've moved the same amount of weight in a 206, it was fine just watch out for potholes and speedbumps it will be sitting low.

If you spread the majority around the sears and only put a few in the boot it'll be fine.
If you put too many in the boot you'll be riding low at the back.

It's only like having three fat mates in the car, put 100kg in the front and the rest in the boot and your well away,

It's about the same weight as three large guys.( but ) all those plates
Won't be wearing seat belts !!!! So god forbid if you have a bump.
300kg of plates flying around inside the car with you.put them on the
Floor if you can ,jammed in behind the front seats and passenger
Footwell.

Put them on a roofrack and tie em down with a bit of bungee. Be sure to allow 3 mile stopping distances.

Weight won't be a problem, had loads of 'em in my Vectra, but it does handle differently to having same weight in human form, presumably 'cos its concentrated and lower down. Just take it steady.

The main issue here is not the car's ability to carry the weight but rather the safety issue of having many large metal objects in your car that are not strapped down.

Distributing the weight evenly across the car sounds like a good idea, but only if they can be safely fastened down. It would be better to have them all in the boot if this means that the plates are less of a threat to you (the driver) in the event of an emergency stop, even if this means that you are riding low at the back.

Weight wont be a problem.

braking hard and them fluing about might. Put some tape around piles of them in each seat, fasten seatbelt over it and tape to seatbelt should be pretty secure then.

I managed 150kg plates, 2 plate stands, a log, couple of bars, few DB handles, 53 and 78kg circus DBs and 6 floor mats in my old subaru, and the steering was light as hell and brakes were ropey, but it was ok
