Do these actually have any place in a powerlifters routine? Could leg extension be considered "assistance" for squats in the way that dips are assistance to bench press?

I wouldn't consider a leg extension a good assistance it puts a lot of pressure on the knee joint but leg curls and flute ham raise are a must have but instead of the leg curl try boxing sqauting if you do it right in theory its the same momment as a leg curl

I'm doing ham curls and leg extension to hit all of the areas I don't usually get to hit hard. I'd say that they do have a place as assistance work.I'd say ham curl was much more valuable than leg ext though.

yeah i guess there's not so much need for leg extenstion as the squat works it... I do high bar squats though so some hamstring assistance might be useful

i dont think pagan meant it in that way

just some of the post's you have made seem to be more about what they talk about on there for example the bicep question

this forum is about strength and all aspects of getting strong but from what you have been saying it comes across your more into asthetics which isnt somthing spoke about on this forum

If you are talking about parallel bar dips then the simple answer is no.

Parallel bar dips are in my opinion superior to the bench press for building upper body strength, but as powerlifting is the sport under discussion this is largely irrelevant.

I don't particularly see the point of the leg press in a strength routine. There are far more effective ways to shift weight on the legs if that is the desire, squats to a high box for example would be using the top part of the actual movement you are doing while allowing greater weights to be used.

Leg curls can have a place in a well structured routine, however most people perform them incorrectly - the key engagement of the hamstring occurs at the very top of the lift, where the ankle is pulled into the buttocks - with heavy weights you often see people missing this the most difficult part of the lift simply to shift weight.

Leg extensions are not essential or very effective to be honest.

There are many squat and deadlift variants that do not tax the cns in the same way as back squats that can be used as assistance.

Sorry, what? I don't see how a squatting movement is in theory the same as a curling movement.

If you look into westside a lot u will understand what I mean the muscles used to pull you off the box when the knees go behind the ankle are the same as a leg curl I'm on phone but il post a video explaining it
