What competiton are you doing?

http://strengthandperformance.wordpress.com/2011/04/28/uksa-i-... this one, it's light weight compared to any on here, just to get a taste of it. Added to that, it's about 5 minutes from home.

Apparently there are only a few guys above 100kg in the greater than 90kg class so I don't want to show myself up too much!

Get 2 40k dumbells hammercurl them to your shoulders and push press at shoulder width lockout for 2 seconds and stick your head through the gap in your arms ............might be closest thing to a log but the clean will be easier on the log cus you will be rolling the bar up by pushing your elbows up to the roof whilst thrusting the bar up with your hips .......good luck mate

I don't understand why these events don't get advertised on sites such as this one. They would have a better turnout.

And I notice a few of these gyms popping up where you can't go unless you sign up to either a membership or a personal training plan... ridiculous money making schemes to me.

good luck with your comp anyway fella

"what respectable strength outfit worth it’s salt would dare leave the god father of strongman events out of a ‘strongman’ competition? Not us, I can tell you that!
For the Under 90′s the weight will be 80 kg’s per hand and for the Over 90′s, 90 kg’s per hand."

a respectable strongman outfit would have at least 100kg farmers even for first timers.

I wasn't sure what they were expecting for the turnout, one of their trainers said they've filled all of the slots in the comp.

They start in that article saying it's not a strongman comp, then say it is in the next descriptions.

strengthandperformance:
In other words this is not a ‘strongman’ event. Sorry boys, no strongman competitors allowed!!

then

strengthandperformance
what respectable strength outfit worth it’s salt would dare leave the god father of strongman events out of a ‘strongman’ competition?

Should be a good first competition anyway!

The limiting factor in my log press is the amount I can clean.

Point is that it's a weird lift with a lot of variation between people so you'll never know until you get your hands on a log for the first time. Just hammer your regular overhead lifts and try to find some way to practice the clean and you'll be fine.

Just so everyone can sleep soundly, I went down on Saturday morning and tried the logs.

I managed the 70kg log with 10kg on for an easy 80kg - so I'm on target for the comp, it did feel like a lot more tricep involvement than from doing barbell press, maybe i just have weak triceps

On the other events, I struggled with the 90kg farmers walks (lifting was fine, i just didnt get very far!) so i'll have to work on that over the next 5 weeks.

Tyre flipping will also need some work - if anyone is going to be down there this week that wouldn't mind giving me a hand with technique, let me know.

Thanks

Strict press 140kgx2

Log press 140kg.

Why the f**k do the handles on a log have to be so far apart? It blows.

good luck in your comp.

with a 200 deadlift you should be fine with 90kg farmers with a little practice.

Happy
