I'm going to give these a go. Once a week after bench press. Got 80kg today. Was hard (the clean was actually easier than the press) but with practice I should progress. Question is, what rep/set schemes work best with these movements? I'm thinking loads of doubles and triples. Also, should I start from the floor each rep or do only one clean per set?

I've done them twice so far, and the first time the clean felt hardest and the second time I missed on the press. Definitely a weird feeling movement. From what I feel it wouldn't really help to train continentals at much below 90% So heavy singles maybe?

If a power clean is possible I'd use that. Continentals are for people who are crap at cleaning (like me for example)!

Correct me if i'm wrong, but would it not be a lot more difficult to clean an olympic barbell than an axle due to the roll?

Why would you want to continental clean a barbell anyway?

To an extent yes, but i personally believe you should eliminate oly cleans from strongman training, cus as soon as it gets anywhere near "heavy" you will miss the clean, even if you could press it !!! I have trained with people who have a 200 ftoh oly style who couldnt clean the bar to shoulders with 120 on the axle !!! in my opinion you should learn only continental you should do it regularly and up to doubles on a near max weight then drop the weight and do a minuite set with no rest to build the cardio side of lifting for comps .

I agree with ursus to an extent, however I would also learn to full power clean, BUT on an axle.

I favour the Terry Hollands technique, more of a high pull placed on your shoulders, so then you don't have to worry about the rotation of the bar.

I can go up to 125 this way, but if the comp weight was 120 I would be cont cleaning all the way, as IMO it uses a little less energy

I don't think dr_hazbun is training for strongman.
