Is olympic weightlifting going down the pan in the UK? I was just looking at the results of last year's British. Handful of competitors, most categories only one or two entrants, a few boys winning unopposed. Weights being lifted were in the main, appalling. One or two good lifters.

I could even put up with seeing Michela Breeze rolled out in front of the camera's if she wasn't such a serious old trout.

Only a few years ago we had the likes of Morgan, McQueen, Guest and Burrows coming through - what's happened?

Answers on a postcard.

Mr PorkPie,

You would be correct in your asumption, It is f**ked because people are very f**ked off with playing on an uneven playing field .. With the introduction of The Whereabout then ADAMS testing programmes it has made drug use of any kind impossible BUT only in this country ... Every other country CARRY ON REGARDLESS..

I`m NOT PRO or CON for people using performance enhancers but it has too be ALL or NON ..

At the moment its like British Rowers competing against Eastern Block Speedboaters

Then BWLA loses all its funding to World Class Weightlifting another load of old bollox .. On my first meeting with these people they informed me that i MUST stop taking ANY supplementation because it could be "contaminated", She informed me that if i got my diet sorted that would provide enough nutrients to take me to the next level ..

From your list of lifters though Morgan (snr) is in his 40's and although still looks brilliant and is super fit couldnt cut it at his former levels, Morgan (jnr) is enjoying fatherhood for the first time round, and posts on here as RUSEV. McQueen went the PL route as you know, Guest & Burrows are seriously into the BB side of things. I'm guessing most have gone on to other things for their own reasons PP. My own thoughts are that WL attracts a certain kind of person, and that person wont be owned, and wont be kept on a tight leash. UKS tried to ban top level lifters from drinking at squad meets FFS. Most lifters dont do squads anymore, but most still drink.
Little a will not be making any return to a BWLA/ WCWL/ UKS platform in the foreseable future but thanks for the vote Paul.Wink

Anyone got a link to last years championships?

MC could be the first Strongman convert, the British Kokylaev or Bergmanis!

Come to the Dungeon - it's fun (don't ask Andy about it though).

For all the reasons Barry and Andy give, plus many more, none more so than weightlifting in this country appears to being run by a bunch of c**ts who do not have any interest in what the needs of the lifters are!!!!

Are those actual figures Bryn? If they are I would suggest someone in BWLA asks for an inquiry with your statement above in mind. Thats disgracefull.
There are young kids out there working their bollox off because they love the sport, and they'll train from now till their ar****le heals up and never get any kind of cut of that money, and probably be hounded out of the sport for being 'elite'.

Medals? Lets work on getting someone there first.

We've had some good Eastern European guys at the Farm over the past couple of years including Max, who qualifies to compete for GB, he won the british title first time out and won best lifter for GB at last years Westwern Europe competition.

However, after getting almost no support or help from BWLA or the other bunch, this year he has said F**k em, or words to that effect and has not even renewed his BWLA membership. He finds it hard to understand that weightlifting is such an un-recognised sport in this country and despite being here for many years is talking of returning East.
