a PB is a PB ! Member 539, 1086 posts | Post Edited: 16.02.2011 @ 12:28 PM by goodwinm Should a convicted sex offender be on the register for life? Can they change? Should they have certain 'Human Rights'? Any sex offenders here? I'm listening to BBC radio 2. Forgive me. lol Just to add, I know someone (male 21) who has been sent to prison for 3 years for 'raping' a 12 year old girl. He has been put on the sex offenders register for life. From what I understand the 12 year old girl looks a lot older and lead him to believe she was 17. They had sex (both sides consented to it!), then she spoke up and pressed charges and got the police involved because she was only 12. Of course we never know the full story, but girls like this are an absolute discgrace. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12476979 http://www.stourbridgenews.co.uk/news/local/8848780.Brierley_H...

Red Bull is banned in netball Member 799, 1484 posts | I have known people who were victims, and it is my belief that the sex offenders cannot change and should be tracked for life. They target and ruin peoples lives why should they be given theirs back? Its quite telling that even hardcore scum hate sex offenders.

But someone who shags a 15y/o at 19 shouldnt be on the sex offenders register at all IMO if the culprit was lead to believe the victim was 16 y/o+

My opinions have run their course Member 694, 3112 posts | Where do you start with this topic? I have personally caught and reported a paedophile who subsequently lost his job and got four years inside. And here's the story.... When I was 17 I joined my first ship in the gulf. My job was to go around each section in my department and basically learn about the systems and ways of working. Spending about a week or two on each section. I went to work for a Petty Officer called 'Dave' (coincidentally I have that name and rank now lol)..... he worked in a restricted office... only people who worked there could enter, via a keycode on the door. Each day he would leave me sat there while he played games or f**ked around on his PC. These were the days before ships had IT systems/networks installed and people tended to have their own standalone computers if they wished. (So it was HIS computer not that Navy's). He never did any work, never taught me anything, hardly spoke to me... and one day left me in there for 8 hours while he f**ked off ashore. I was new to everything and wouldn't have said boo to a fly at this point. When he left the office he ALWAYS locked his computer screen. Anyway, one day he nipped out and left it unlocked, while playing a game called serious Sam. After ten mins or so I jumped on and started playing.... being a 17 year old s**t bag I then started looking through his documents and photos... I would know if he came in as he would have to enter the code on the door. I found his PORN folder, which was catagorised into subfolders such as Anal, Black, Double Penetration, etc etc... I flicked through some of them and got to 'Y'.... which was a folder called 'yung'....... not catchin on I opened it. There were hundreds of photos..... the first few were things like naked young women who could be 18 but could be 16..... so i kept looking.... then there was one where there were two naked kids running in a field... then a kid on a bed.... nothing dodgy could be family photos I suppose..... BUT then it got slightly worse lets say.... now I never saw anything BAD.... but i felt physically sick from what I did see and was shaking..... brought the game back up and left the office thought all day what to do and we were at sea so i knew he wasnt going anywhere.... that night i told my leading hand (my best mates ex wife now lol) what had happened.... she said 'are you f**king SURE' basically.... and went to tell the master at arms on my behalf (the policeman basically).... he interviewed me and told me to say nothing to anyone.. the next morning he came in the office and took the computer just saying to the bloke 'i am taking it... thats that' no explanation heard nothing about it until a few days later, someone got drunk and went over the main broadcast saying 'rumour is young Dave (me) caught PO Dave XXXX with child porn' the lads asked if it was true and i said i cant say which says it all nothing much happened until four months later got back to the uk... police came and arrested him and seized evidence, did not speak to me at all though then around 6 months later i read article in news of the world lo and behold he had been sent down.... they found thousands of images at his house, his wife had been sending them out on discs to him

Member 2063, 99 posts SQ 130, BP 120, DL 190440.0 kgs @ 92kgs UnEq | For my Law finals we studied rape and other related offences, it's one of those aspects to the law that will always be contentious. There are so many little actions that constitute a sexual offence it is in many ways silly, but also undeniably necessary, to protect. One moment of madness and with the wrong female (or male, child), that's it, criminal record. The age by which people growing up have open access to the internet is constantly lowering and with that, young male 'offenders' (although not those convicted for rape) have my empathy sometimes because young girls undoubtedly ditch their 'schoolgirl' images a lot sooner in contmeporary society and lie about their age to get networking on the web. Although, the difference between a 12 yr old and a 17 yr old I think is vast, however one looks at it, especially in terms of physical development. With paedophilia there is absolutely no justification for crimes against minors, or even for the thought of them. It's completely f**ked up and isn't in keeping with general human principles. We're a survival species inherently and so many crimes I suppose can be stretched back to that instinct if really analysed, but paedophilia is wrong on so many levels.

sumo ?? no ! no ! Member 1399, 557 posts | I think some of you guys are overreacting without reading the details. This isn't an attempt to move large numbers of people off the sex offenders register, it's an attempt to try and find a middle ground between putting everyone on it forever and not having one at all. For example, one of the men who brought the case was put on the register when he was 11 years old. It's quite possible that at the age of 30 he's no longer a threat and the stigma of being on the register is inappropriate. Most of the response to this has been tabloid-esque hysteria that's quite devoid of critical thinking.

I cant imagine how horrible something like that would be to stumble across. I think ranthari has hit the nail on the head. It is absurd to treat all sexual based offences the same. A 19 year old sleeping with a 15 year old is statutory rape is a whole world away from a serial rapist for example.

A 19 year old sleeping with a 15 year old is statutory rape is a whole world away from a serial rapist for example. I agree with this. It does depend on the seriousness of the crime. A 19 year old having sex -consent from both sides sex- should have a far less punishment if any to be honest. I know the legal limit is 16 but for f**k sake, I had sex at 15, with a 15 year old of course. I don't know. Too many legal fineprint and technicalities and a whole load of bulls**t that the general public are not made aware of. Never 100% trust what you read on a news website or newspaper. It could turn out that guy I know of actually did know the girl was 12, liked underage girls, and did rape her. If so then 3 years seems way too lenient. I do like though, if the bbc reported what the judge said correctl, he said the lad does not pose a threat to young girls. Which is it then? lol

BUT, your a 19 y/o in town...some girl approaches you, she looks 19, she tells you she's 19, she's in a club, so is in theory over 18 You take her home, and blah blah blah Dont think that makes you a sex offender, or indeed, any different from any other 19 y/o bloke!
