In maybe all strength sports there seems to be alot of quotes going around, alot of them are on facebook others are dotted about elsewhere my question is this.. Do any of you actually get motivated by them or 'live by these wise words' or are you simular to me in that you find they abit cheesy? and only get motivated by training for a comp because you want to do well not to "slay your competitors?"

Any veiws?

sorry its such a wank thread just bored.

I find them a bit cheesy to be honest. They do seem to pop up on FB a lot. People seem to want to make sure everyone knows how positive they are about stuff I think.

I don't use FB and everytime I get tempted to I have a look at some of the bulls**t my mates post on there...

trained with a lad yesterday, he did 5 sets of 2 reps on 200kg deadlift FRAME
went straight back and wrote his status as something akin to "just did 200kg deadlift for ten reps!" lol.... another lad who we train with rang me straight up to check it, and I said although it is close to the truth it is stretching it a fair bit

but in answer to the actual question you ask... sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, I don't look at a weight and think of a quote then suddenly do it.

I'm very much 'into' quotes. Something like Mary Anne Radmacher's courage I find quite inspiring and quite apt in strength sports in terms of progression; no matter how many times we fail a lift it will eventually happen.

"Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow"."

Also, there is a thing about success that Hugo Girard says in his documentary which I really like too and does help me keep pushing forward when things start to get tough.

"Through hard work and dedication you actually make the way for success. Success doesn't happen overnight, success doesn't arrive out of nowhere; you build it, you prepare it, and you make it happen.

The first thing you do, is you concieve something. Then you believe in it and then you achieve it by taking action to make it happen."

there is no harm in them , i wouldnt have 'only god can judge me' tattooed on my back , mainly because there is no god but also because although i like the odd quote , i wouldnt want one on my herculean body.

I like good quotes for life in general; not too bothered about strength/training quotes. All my favourites are about changing the world!

Be the change you want to see in the world.
- Gandhi

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
- Margaret Mead

We shouldn't feel embarrassed by our difficulties, only by our failure to grow anything beautiful from them.
- Alain de Botton

Don’t ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.
- Dr. Howard Thurman

Think most of the "motivational" stuff, is just stuff people put on facebook//msn to try show off to their friends. and cant say a little picture with text around does alot for me..

though i do like these..

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could

Yeah Bros being a bodybuilder is 24/7 job. There is no flare, no glam, no exitement you grind day to day paying your dues. I woudn't have it any other way because you gotta earn your place here though sweat, guts and tears! No one can understand us because we bros are unique breed of Animal we wake up at 3am everyday to boil eggs and prep the food for the day, its is us who aready have eaten 3 meals by 6am when the rest of the world is waking up to a nice cup of coffee and a bagel with cream cheese, it is we who made it as our everyday commitment to take AnimalPak every day instead of the cheap multi you see in the pharacy for the average couch potato. As I walk to the gym wearning nothing put my otomix torn up wife beater and my rusty magnum boots these Joe Shmoes look at me with disgust like I am not human, to what I say hell yeah we are a new breed, we are Animals.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Don’t let the sets last much longer than ten seconds, total. Kinda like sex with a hot chick, hit it hard for ten seconds.

I think that's a Wendler quote - can't remember Wink
