what technique do you guys use for psyching up for a big lift?

do you visulise something, remember something from the passed that pisses you off?

I think I still need to work on this, to find exactly what suits me best.

I know I can't go as crazy on bench press, otherwise my form just goes to s**t. I need to focus on concentration, rather than anger.

I've only ever really been what I would call 'in the zone' once or twice, when I deadlifted 400lbs and 200kgs for the first time respectively. I didn't scream or shout, I just focused absolutely intently. This involved being on my own for a few minutes and then just staring at the bar for a bit before getting tensed up and pulling.

well, im always here to post one of my many vids, i get semi cross befor some lifts but ive never been so phsyced befor my final deadlift, i bark at the bar followed by a couple of screams left the audience delirious for more boar, if only id fully fallen over the plates when exiting im sure they would have lost their wads.....

or somthing, looking forward to watching rob and paul 'get nastaaaayyyyy'

was that the 235k lift? it looked piss easy

as for psycing i have my own little way off getting pissed off but
it doesnt seem to work on the bench

I like to slap my face, shouting at the bar or my geoff capes pic also helps. Visulisation works to a certan extent.

I find it realy hard to get motivated for the bench though. if i get realy angry like i do for the squat/over head press/deadlift then i mess up the lift.

I find the way Dan shouts "get it up!" at you very arousing. He's obviously done it often in training.

What I do is rather as recommended in Dinosaur Training - I just visualise the whole lift, from setup to completion, repeatedly. Then I do it. Fairly calm. I do talk to the bar a bit, but I don't really get excitable until *afterwards* Happy.

Most of the time i wish i acted like Rick does:"Visualise the lift..."!
Yet this i cant do all the time, i tend to get psyched up whith my breathing, then i slap my legs and get a spotter/friend/anyone slapping my back a couple of times.

I agree though, you need a deadlift attitude same goes with the squat.

i just focus a wee bit, i'm not very good at it, but it helps to start huffing and puffing and talking finnish to myself Grin

Couple Sugden Slaps have been observed to help as well.

I can get really angry for a lift, sometimes too angry. I try really hard to just get a nice rage going on inside, think of things that piss me off, it often does spill over to some kind of random noise or shouting.

I often slap myself on the temple with both hands, seems to work really well at clearing my head, and in the past I used a hard clap as a kind of mental cue to get focused.

I also do a lot of visualising, i'll often delay a lift until I can see myself doing it.

I find going nuts in the lifts that I am very, very comfortable with usually serves me well. I know with Squats, my form is where I want it to be. I can pysche up and i'll perform better.

But with Benches, Presses and usually Deadlifts there's still too many form pointers to remember for me. I'll most likely worsen my performance if I psyche too much for those.

Getting angry, or concentrating hard, just seems to set me up for a fall. I'm at my best when I have no doubt in my mind i'll get the lift, and I just do everything I have trained to do. As soon as I start thinking about it, i tend to just get negative vibes.
