I've done most of my box squating of a newquay brown ale crate I liberated from the back of an SU bar quite a while ago.

I payed about 30 quid for it.... or at least thats what I spent on brown ale the night before Tongue

Build a solid low box from wood, add plates on top to adjust the height.

Pullum are insanely overpriced on a lot of items.

But I guess if they don't sell many, they aren't making many so price stays high.

Not certain, but might be imported from China. I got prices from a supplier, and they weren't all that cheap. After import costs, £350 is not too crazy imo. My guess is they are so niche that they have to charge these sort of prices to make holding stock worthwhile. If they're selling two or three a year, it's not worth it if they're just making £50 each time.

I was going to make a post on Pullum yesterday. I was looking on their site and found some plastic plates http://www.pullum-sports.co.uk/bars-and-discs/olympic-training... that are 100 quid for a SINGLE 2.5kg plate. For that price you could get a few 20kg iron plates. Is it just me or do most people think they take the p*ss?

When it's a branded plate like that, you never know how much they are getting them in for. They work on high margins in general, but it's likely down to relatively low volumes of sales. Being 'involved in the industry' now (Happy) I'm less critical of them than I used to be.

Jesus, if they even sell one of them they deserve a f*cking medal. Absolutely absurd. That would take a minute, probably less, to knock up in a shed. And free as well.
