Can someone tell me why they are supposed to be so good? My personal opinion is they do nothing that a dumbell cant do. I just find them awkward as the handles dont move. When you do an overhead press, the kettlebell is pushing against the forearm.

Im interested in peoples opinions, perhaps Boar can answer this, I know he has used them a fair bit.

Once you learn how to use them for the like of swings single arm swings, get ups bottom up presses you'll notice your whole body is effected one way or another. Also there pretty good for cardio too.

As Thing mentioned, loads of uses.

Great for conditioning, muscular endurance, elasticity, power, flexibility, cardio the list goes on.

The bit about it being uncomfortable on the forearm will be down to your technique.

You should be holding the bell towards the corner when pressing over head so that your forearm is where the handle meets the bells surface. Much more comfortable that way.

As with any kind of lifting, getting the technique right is the key, get it wrong and its even more hard work than it already is......

yankie doodle dandy !!

to be fair , you can get away with using a dumbell but its not quite the same ...the old cannonball with a handle has magical properties ... the comfort and distribution of weight makes it perfect for some solid repping and CV benefit giving macigness

you can build great muscle endurance , anyone who has ever been down to the shed for a session is blowing out of their ass after a set of 100 swings WITH A 16 !!!

You should get some long sweat bands to wear on your forearms - increases comfort substantially ;-)

Also the bell design is an important factor as some have really wide handles/relatively small distance from handle to bell = more uncomfortable.

As the bell rises up above your head punch through it and it nicely settles onto the forearm wit no drama*

*This is all Boar approved and taught

Ok thanks for the replies. I still dont see what they do that a dumbell doesnt and I dont see whats "magical" about them but I have no doubt that they can be useful. Thanks again lads Happy
