GBPF used to do BUSA (now known as BUCS) but BUCS no longer recognises powerlifting, as Paul Rees says above. So basically GBPF and BDFPA are both running their own university championships, unaffiliated to any official university sports organisation.

Wouldn't it be nice if they could organise it together (or have alternating years) - surely 2 drug tested University Champs is no good to anybody. There's few enough lifters already without dividing them in half.

Just to confirm that British records can be set at the ALL ENGLAND OPEN.
Totals or Single Lifts achieved may be used as qualifying performances for next years British Championships BUT!! YOU MUST STILL LIFT IN YOUR DIVISIONALS!!!to get an invite!
If you need further clarification regarding any matters discussed above please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

That statement applies to drug-tested lifting in general though.... especially unequipped.

Lifters entries for most age groups (15-79)received so far. Good spread across the weightclasses for single lifts and powerlifting. We usually plan for a maximum of 40 powerlifters per day but as single lifters are also involved we will go above this figure if necessary. But ! Early entry is recommended to ensure your place.
Championship Awards will be made in the OPEN(all comers) category and for the All England(from English divisions) WEIGHTCLASS Champions. Plus :- Best overall Lifter in Powerlifting/Squat/Bench/Deadlift.There will ALSO be awards for Best University and College Lifters(includes Schools entries).
Access to the venue and parking is easy.Cafe will be open from start of weigh in on both days.Calibrated weights on the competition platform to ensure authentic record claims. All BDFPA and WDFPLF members welcome. Details on BDFPA web SITE.
REGARDS to ALL,
Paul

Just got a 7.5kg Pb on my bench combined with a 10kg PB on my squat a couple of weeks ago, so things are looking good for october.

Seen some good lifting in the 75kg at training, martin DL 227.5kg (a little rough) but combined with a big bench and OK squat he should have a good chance.

I think the match with BU will be great.

I agree that the governing bodies should unify to run a single Uni champs to keep the highest quality competition. I know a guy who works for BUCS, might see what he thinks about making powerlifting official.

Well done on your training PBs Sley and Martin.18 days to go to get entries in.All competitors must be members of the BDFPA or WDFPLF.End of year membership valid from October 1st may be available to you.Look on membership page on the BDFPA web site. No joining on the day.
Bournemouth University have a promising team entering this competition.Three excellent 75kg lifters in particular are entered and will take some beating.

Paul

The University champs 2008 and 2009 were great competitions run under GBPF, I don't think there is a need to run another one under BDFPA as the existing format is fine and just serves to complicate things. Seems to be the way of powerlifting though
