It is a worrying trend that so many top strongmen are suffering these career threatening injuries. I wonder how big a part warmup(or lack of) plays in this or if it's purely down to technique or part of a pre existing injury?

A 420 thats a nice shape, with a good grip, sure no probs, but how many of those are kicking about the strongman world(in the UK)?

also add to that the fact that the equipment used are at least regulated and standardised, not just some apparatus cooked up together by some cowboy in his garage.

nah, that would be a bad move.

good point bryn. but warm ups are left to the responsibility of the athletes - organisers should though say "before tyre flip event you get extra 10 minutes to warm up" - but what will probably happen is that guys will rest 10 mins longer...

found this interesting, these were the events for Germanys Strongest Man, for one, this looks more like a late 90s WSM to me(which is awesome), and two, look how light that tyre is!

“The events were: Log Lift for maximum, Car Deadlift, Yoke Race (365 kg for 30 meter), Tire Flip (380 kg for 20 meters), Beer Keg overhead lift (100 kg for reps), and Farmer’s Walk (125 kg, 60 meters for time).

from Ironmind obviously

That tyre is about the same weight used at B/Castle and Allendale (where I tore mine) which are local comps where as this is a national comp. Looks like a nice set of events!

As Tom says, the tyre does not have to be 600KG to tear the bicep

Tom and Mark both did them on around 400KG tyres
