you can squat using no hands with a SSbar Terry. We use one from Watsons.

Pretty sure this is the one we use, and I would think its probably been loaded to the high 300kgs at least when Martins been squatting with it.

I can't see one-handed dead lifts being of any benefit. Just my opinion.

Yes, some sort of squat is the answer.

what's with all the bicep problems lately, do people train biceps? are they over/under developed which is causing the tears?

I don't train biceps but I'm begining to think I should. Opinions?

by being a strongman you train your biceps loads more than you realise! direct bicep work IMO is not needed, or maybe just some light stuff for recovery purposes! It's just like boxers getting broken noses, if you don't get one then you are very lucky!

My arm didnt tear anywhere near the extent of yours, but I did find that when i rested from the event stuff that hurt and did light hammer curls it speeded up recovery.......this may not be the same case for yourself though.

I thought this also but maybe some direct might help. do other wsm competitors not bother with direct work?

Forgot to mention that Mark Lawson also recomended oat rich foods and collagen tablets to assist recovery.

i personally think peopel that dont train them get bicep tears more than poeple that do.

what ive never understood is one people dont train all there body parts even as a strongman if there is one week link in the chain it will show.

biceps included

maybe its more like people who do not stretch the biceps?

It tears when its stretched and contracting at the same time in its stretched position, isnt that correct?

Maybe i am wrong but it would make sense to me that those with tightest biceps would tear them the most. And doing direct bicep work without corresponding stretching would make them tighter, no?

The weak link argument doesnt really work because the loads used are usually so much heavier than even the most accomplished bicep specialist could achieve with their pump sessions.

But what I meant was do you train events? Plenty of bicep work there. Do you do rows? chin ups, lat pull downs cleaning the log etc etc. Just cause you are not isolating a muscle doesn't mean you're not training it!

Most of the international guys that have had tears are people that directly train their biceps!

Doing light recovery work and as Joni pointed out stretching is a different thing

IMO it is something to do with it being a weak link, in the sense that Terry has done so many comps recently, and done so many heavy events, and that of all the areas of the body the bi actachment, and maybe calf too, seem to just plain be the first to go. Just because they take loads of stress, but are reletively small

i think it depends on your form on the curls.

Ive heard of some guys who now cant straighten their arms fully from years of curls without a full extension, ie the tendon has shortened. im assuming these guys would be a lot more likely to tear their tendons.
