The rules changed quite a long time ago - masters 2 can break masters 2,1 and open. Masters 3 can break masters 3,2,1 ... At the other end of the age scale Under 18 can also break under 20, & under 23 ...

i don't really see the logic in that, definition of a master 1 is something like between the age of 40 and 49 years 364 days

so how can someone older be allowed to break it?

by the same kind of logic a lifter in the 67.5kg class exceeding a record in the 75kg class should claim that record?

thoughts?

I can see both sides of the arguement and agree with you it's not the same logic being applied to age catergories as weight catergories.

It's actually an IPF rule that was changed quite a few years ago (2005 I think), not a BWLA/GBPF rule.

I actually think it's correct - the age classes records were, IMO, introduced to give older lifters a chance of setting records, not to give younger lifters an easy record because they are not as good as older lifters.

Personally I think it would be a good idea if lighter lifter could set records in heavier weight classes
