Had it confirmed by my physio today that I've torn fibres in my calf. Nothing too serious, but need to get it sorted asap.

It's just at the base of the main belly of the muscle on the inner side of the right leg.

Have had some good deep tissue treatment, ultrasound and also short wave treatment on it today and borrowed an EMS (electronic muscle stimulation) machine off my training partner to try help it along. Couple that with ice and heat treatment and wearing a neoprene at all times except in bed, it'll hopefully heal quite fast.

Got the Lancashire Strongman Champions on the 21st which is 2 weeks or so before Arnold's so now debating if I should do that or leave it and focus on getting the calf sorted for Arnold's; think that's going to depend on how fast this recovers though.

Anyone else had an injury like this; any rehab tips at all?

Cheers
Ken

Unlucky bud, so near to a comp too. Never had a calf tear myself.

You sound like you have everything in place to aid a quick recovery though...

You'll probably know in a few days whether you should do the Lancashire or not.

Yeah Nathan, right now I think likely best to skip the Lanc show, play it by ear though.

Cheers Dan, will take a look at that!

Homo.

Nah on a serious note you're still a homo.

In regards to the question I say you chill out and wait for the Arnolds like a homo.

As someone around the similar age as myself (heaps more strength and experience) I was looking forward to watching you in action in the Lancs but if I was at your level and in the same situation, I know where my priorities would lie !!

All the best mate !!!

s**t luck mate!

What is it with you scotts and calves at the moment?

South of border knees are all the fashion at the moment.

I would rest for the arnolds too mate - its a BIG comp, lancs comp would have been good too because you could have gone against folk from england, but that kind of pales in comparison to the arnolds comp...

Yeah, I was really looking forward to the comp. Good to compete against guys like Spencer who I've competed with before and also test myself against others like Dean Slater, Gary Gardener etc.

Right now I still intend on competing, but whether I do or not depends on how well the calf responds to treatment and the other rehad stuff I do and also if I feel it's not ready even though it feels good, therefore making it too risky with Arnold's a few weeks after.

Tore a calf last year - repeatedly. Initially irritated it by jogging between various destinations at work, and the next day the stiffness became a minor tear when I was skipping. This then developed into a more serious tear when I was squatting and slightly lost the bar forward. Rehabbed this for a while and seemed to be sorted - then tore it again running uphill. All this info only goes to indicate: rest is essential (esp. at my age).

As for rehab - keep working it gently and stretching and foam rolling - just not enough of anything to cause unacceptable pain or injury. It's that fine line between doing too little (which can be equally injurious) and too much...
