Oh & more importantly it is going to be damned heavy if you try and build it asa single piece. Did I mention the heavy thing ? (just to keep it weight related) 10' of 1/4 plate, even if you can find someone to supply it, is going to weigh loads.

Has turned into a fucking nobhead - any guesses as to what caused it ?? Member 30, 520 posts SQ 185, BP 160, DL 200545.0 kgs @ 91kgs UnEq | I seem to rember a guy building a tank like that it weighted loads when filled. they had to reinforce the floor. it was all custom as i recall (it was on a local news item) i think the parents spent 6k reinforceing the floor for it). if its all a single pane of glass i would be s**tting myself about repair if it get cracked or chipped lol.

still a devious weightlifting bastard Member 43, 14374 posts | Post Edited: 09.10.2007 @ 12:29 PM It will be for tropical. The glass tank weighs about 150K. 40 x cubic feet water weighs 1,132K. With equipment/ decor etc say 1,400K. 1,400K / 12 square feet comes out at 116.7K per square foot, and it is a solid floor. So no worries there. For filtration I always prefered going a little bigger than necessary so for a 1,130Ltr tank I'd opt for something like a Fluval FX5, 2300 LPH suitable for aquariums up to 1500 litres. I'd probably go for a couple of Tetratec HT300 heaters and see how the temp goes during the filtration maturing period, but I reckon in a centraly heated house that will be ample. If not can always bang in a central 150/200W to keep things stable. 6 x 48" 40W powerglo's and of course 4 of the 48" moonglow's for evening viewing. Still. No good without a tank http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/8240/tankjk6.png

Member 143, 237 posts SQ 340, BP 245, DL 310895.0 kgs @ 120kgs Eq | Sounds like you have most of it already planned. My main experience is with Koi and large scale outdoors tanks from when I was heavily into my Koi, but I used to help out a few associates with their Marine set-ups. I raised the concern over filtration due to the "long and thin" aspect of the tank. If you have muliple extraction/input points along the tank for the filtration system then you should have no real problem, I just remembered assisting a few friends with long and thin wall inset tanks with end to end filtration and they always had huge amount of problems. Have fun building it.

still a devious weightlifting bastard Member 43, 14374 posts | Cheers AndyH. I have a pond project in the offing to so may well come back to on with queries/ ideas in the near future. It's always nice to deal with someone who has been there to. I was thinking multiple input exit. Been a while since I've had an aquarium so not sure whats on the market. When I was househunting around 12 months ago a solid floor was a big plus as I always wanted another setup, preferably a big un Thanks Shal. Now back in the kitchen Only time Rob, only time. Just have bigger fish to fry right now, if you'll excuse the pun.

still a devious weightlifting bastard Member 43, 14374 posts | OK. We couldnt find someone to build us a 10' tank for a sensible price. One company offered us an 8' one for £500 and a 10' for 2.5K. Had to settle for one for 9'x2'x2'. Ordered it a while back and Saturday morning the beast was transported to Littler towers. Decent service. Very happy with the tank and the seperately ordered hood. Nice piece of furniture. Popped out yesterday to get the filter and lights. Another £250 up me s**tter f**k this is going to be dear, but it will look cool. I reckon should be stocked up in about 6 week with the first few fish. Work on the pond will recommence after this time. & you f**kers thought I just lift weights, drink Guinness, watch porn and smoke weed?
