5) There are an unestimatable but probs significant number who aren't LIFETIME clean.

I don't see how you can argue with logic and fact?

Truth is, the whole issue is so sweeped under the carpet at BWLA. I, for one, would like to see a much more transparent approach.

I wish c**ts like you who talk down the sport they supposedly love would just f**k off somewhere else. You said in another post it's good that there's no nobs of this forum. Well there's at least one, and I'm replying to him. There's lots of us trying to promote and develop the sport and the last thing we need is prats telling new lifters that they've got no chance of achieving anything.

To everyone else, sorry about the language, but imo this prick is dragging down the whole forum.

lol calm down!

Loaded at British Nationals
Loaded at 2/3 local comps
Qualified ref
Coach younger lifters..

Can you not relax a little bit? I didn't make this personal at any one point and you come out with that attack? I'm sure some on here who know me will say that the above is mostly untrue.

I love the sport of powerlifting and that's why it bothers me. There is more to powerlifting and life in general than BWLA. You are a masters lifter right?

Martin,I don't want this to disintegrate further.

I never said young lifters can acheive anything.. WHat I did say,

is that if you judge your success on beating others you will never win. Maybe this went over your head but I'm sure members of the board knew what I meant..

"if you constantly judge success against beating others, rather than realising this is a sport where you are competing ONLY against yourself and it is ONLY you that matters... then you will be successfull even if you never win"

Why is this hard to understand? This is the essence of powerlifting. Not BWLA. WHat names, tags or fed we hold the comps under is superfluous.

WHat is killing powerlifting? When we realise that powerlifting is lifting heavy s**t, having fun and showcasing our efforts and attitude.

Your attitude of 'thought police' and hiding the truth will put more lifters off than being open, transparent and honest will ever do.

And I will stop lifting when you nail the weight to the floor.. so you better bring your hammer to every comp in Britain.

How is open debate dragging down the forum?

You want a dead forum? go to http://www.powerlifting.org.uk, where the powerlifting 'faces' (in the main) hang out.. Yes that is a dead forum?

Open discussion, debate and communication? A step in the right direction IMO.

Don't care who you know and who you are. I would like to know what your motives are, though? When you start putting people off taking up the sport and keep on with totally unsubstantiated wink-wink-nugde-nudge allegations, you do your little bit to keep the sport small and insignificant.

If you're in the majority, I'll just go post somewhere else. Imo you're ruining Sugden with all the s**t you're posting.

Have you never heard of Devil's Advocate?

Also, you haven't justified your personal and unwarranted attack on me? I haven't judged your character or motives at any point because I do not know you.

My motive is, if we want powerlifting to take off like strongman is taking off in this country, we may need to re-assess.

Look at BPC. They are growing so fast and seem to have a great attitude.

If you think BWLA is great and we should promote BWLA then fine. But I'd rather promote powerlifting than BWLA.

Besides, lifting and posting on the internet is fun for me.. Are the same old posts fun? The fact this has been a popular discussion is great for the board!

If you are still pissed off with me tomorrow, pm me and i'll give you my mobile number.. I think calling people vulgar language is dragging the sport down and re-inforcing negative stereotypes..Not open discussion.

Powerlifting is fantastic but powerlifting is not defined by which competitions you do. There are thousands who powerlift but only a few at the comps.. Why?

I appreciate you are promoting BWLA within NW, and that is good.. But to say questioning BWLA is bringining down Powerlifting, or a board originally made be people who trained at the uni gym in Manchester with a common goal (and originally who did not compete and weren't interested in powerlifting) is even more absurd.

GUYS

Lets not trade personal insults. Thats not what this board is about at all and as long I'm a moderator Id rather it stayed that way.

If that is the route that you want to take there is a perfectly good private message system, take it there.

This isn't about BWLA, it's about badboy casting aspersions on the integrity of all tested powerlifters, the vast majority of whom are clean. Olly, I don't like posting like this, but a pm wouldn't have got the message across to aspiring lifters that they can lift clean and succeed while so doing. Imo these people have to be publicly challenged. I tried to do it properly (lots of stats on slow and steady development, frequency of testing, etc.) but to no avail. Then when I talked Tom out of thoughts of not competing, he comes back on and basically calls him totally naive. What am I supposed to do? Just sit back and let him peddle his crap and keep putting people off? And indirectly accusing every top tested lifter of being a cheat?

If this forum is about anything at all, it's about our mutual love of powerlifting. It shouldn't be a vehicle that allows people to slag it off and drag it down. "Devil's Advocate" is not a term I would have thought appropriate. "Troll" might be more suitable. As I said, if I'm in the minority on this, I'll happily post somewhere else instead. I come on to forums to be entertained, informed and, occasionally, to put something back. I don't come on to be wound up and read the type of uninformed s**t that you see on some other sites that I won't mention.

Martin, I'm sorry if that's how you perceive how I've come across, it was not the intention of the post. This sport is about grassroots for me and perhaps that emphasis came across too strongly.

I hope you accept my apology (made public because you don't wanna call me Unhappy )

Im not going to get into any further debate on this, i think if you read the posts it is clear that I have maintained "there are freaks who did it natural"..I also used "unestimable" for a reason.. we will never tell.

We are all in the cave on this one, looking at the shadows.. Time to get back to lifting and forget the politics for a moment.

Last post on this subject (now where's my antibiotics?)

Just curious if anyone can point me in the direction of any further reading (personal feelings aside)

A family member is very well respected biochemist specialising in drug metabolism (please guys, no jokesWink). If you want I can ask for some suggested reading on the subject. Although I could tell you his opinion in a nushell if you wanted, I hear it often enough....

You know lads there arnt really enough of us to be falling out. Difference of opinions are one thing, and I beleive, quite healthy, personal attacks from people not getting their own way are OTT and dont really do anyone any good, least of all the sport.
If you guys are genuinely so wound up it's probably best that you dont post at all, let alone on here. Nothing positive will come out of this thread. When people are getting so upset it isnt even funny any more.

i find when i get really wound up about something on forums (jonibol rage?) i cant stop reading the thread and want to reply after every message. This actually just makes it worse.

Better to take a step back, let others get involved as well (usually calming it down) and maybe formulate a more reasoned response. Easy advice to dish out, i certainly dont follow it often enough Grin

About this subject, i have a lot of sympathy for Martin losing his temper about this, but i think you two are talking past eachother, face to face i dont think you would have got that upset, probably would have just agreed to disagree after discussing it for a while. Martin has been getting a lot of similar kind of stick on other forums as well lately, so he has been getting more than his fair share of this stuff now.

If the thread got people thinking then it was worthwhile.

Would suggest a big love sandwhich but I'm not too successful since I had my hair cut.
