Scrap my comment asking you how training went on Tobys journal, just realised you had updated yours doh!

Looks like a good session, your bench is coming on well!

I too have wee lassie hands lol, if big Toby and Ross couldn't get that pinch grip challenge then it must be a very tough one like!

It was seriously f**king tough dude. I'm gonna work at it though and try a little grip work twice a week. Who knows, it might even up my benchpress a little bit in the long run haha.

Surely grip would help more in deadlift, unless you have trouble holding on to the bar in bench for some reason.

The grip would be great for when I'm working those 8s in the future. Especially if I start lifting more weight than my baby cousin haha.
For some reason in the bench when I grip the bar as tight as I can, it feels more stable. Hopefully it'll benefit both well.

Yeah a lot of the top benchers advocate squeezing the bar as tight as you can when you bench to activate the muscles in your forearms and triceps more in the lift, personally I've found it does make a positive impact on your bench when you do it! So yeah get training dem wee lassie hands lol Grin

Yeasterday, I thought I was getting over this flu thing that's been bothering me for the past week or so. Then at about 8pm I started getting a sore throat, by 10pm it had swollen up and I had aches and pains. I decided to go for a shower, but my skin was so sensitive that I couldn't stand under the waterjet.
I went to bed soon after where I shivered and shook all night.
I was supposed to get up for college as to hand in my final assessment for the block but found that when I stood up, I promptly fell over, so I went back to bed. Around 13:30, my goodies arrived from myprotein.co.uk. I stumbled down the stairs and signed for my package.

I couldn't really make breakfast because I didn't have the energy and felt s**t, so I ended up mixing some whey, powdered oats, creatine, vitamin c powder and strawberry nesquik in my shaker. Not the heartiest of breakfasts to tell the truth. I still feel like s**t and am pissed at the possibility of missing yet another squat and bench session tomorrow.
In an hour or two I'm gonna take a couple of ZMA and sleep until tomorrow.
Bleh!

Just gotta rest up buddy, hit the vitamin C etc hard and you'll be back training full pelt in no time! Always frustrating when you get ill, but just makes you more motivated for when you get back to it!

Hi mate

Thanks for popping into my journal.
As others have said, great beard.
I'm based in the midlands but get up to Glasgow every couple of months or so for work, I'll have to come and have a session at your gym, sounds like a great place.

Hi Toby.

Yea I've been resting. Whatever it was it hit me hard. My skin went all f**ked up and I had a big rash all over my body but I'm back to training squats tomorrow. I'm looking forward to my re-introduction to society.

I've decided to alter my writing style as I'm unsure if everybody knows the format I write in.
From now on it's gonna be for example 4x8/100 which would mean 4 sets of 8 reps at 100kg.

I was back at training today doing the squats and the bench press. I was only away from the gym for 9 days but christie me am I glad to be back at it!

All 10 racks and 8 platforms were taken tonight so I started off on bench. It went a little somethin' like this uh huh.

Benchpress:

3x8/75kg

It felt f**king brilliant to tell the truth. By far the best technique I've displayed to date. I paused on every rep. at the chest for a count of 1 and my velocity was great until the second last rep. of the last set where it slowed to about half the pace. I'm feeling my pressing line better now, my forearms and wrists are in a much better, verticle position, my lats are assisting my lift and I'm increasing velocity throughout the lift.
Best technical bench session to date.

Squats:

2x8/95kg
1x8/70kg front squat.

Having been in bed for the best part of a couple of weeks, my legs were pretty stiff today and cramped during warmup which I've not had happen since my first week lifting back in august I think it was. The movement felt reasonable on my back squats (a little lifting with the back on the last 2 reps) and felt spectacular on my front squats. I worked my technique hard today having never trained front squats with a barbell before and had Stevie coach me through my depth and technique. I really want to continue with the front squats every week. I could feel the stability in my core and the technique just seemed so natural to me. I'll be adding 5 kilos each week until my form starts to suffer.

I had great fun today and learned a fair bit.

Isn't four sets/eight reps something to write about on www.musclechat.co.uk?

True that. I'm gonna have to get jacked and tanned if I wanna continue with that nonsense.

I'm all about the 8s and 5s right up until April. Then it's back to 5s 3s and 2s.
