Dirty little devil Member 138, 356 posts | I take your point! IIRC, Pete has made fairly rapid progress though, it wasn't that long ago he was squatting 220k? Now, albeit with a suit, he is going to get 340k+ soon.

Also bear in mind that the 220 was the result of many years of not really knowing what I was doing amd of being a big fish in a small pond, which is never a good thing. Things changed on that happy day I met LittleA, and I became a ship now with a rudder. Decent progress was made thereafter. July/August 2005 I discovered Adlington, where the ship was given a complete refit, and for the first time i had a navigator who knew the waters. Big improvement followed, and as I now swim in ever bigger and bigger ponds, things continue to improve. Any lift of significance I had done has really been done by the team at Adders, I am merely the vehicle they use to do it.

Dirty little devil Member 138, 356 posts | Post Edited: 10.09.2007 @ 21:55 PM You have been well and truly programmed.I also enjoy being told what to do in the gym, makes it so much more neanderthal. You are in a wide, relentless and opaque river, which leads to the ocean, where you will do battle with Russian Sharks and American Whales, or the IPF Masters Comp! "Most people overestimate what they can acheive in a year, and underestimate what they can acheive in a decade"- Think this fits in with what you're saying Andy, if I'm interpreting you correctly.

Who on here would be happy with a 10K increase in over 6 months? Just me and Pete then? Just out of interest Pete, when was the last time you missed a squat? The last I can remember missing was a 285 either late last year or very early this year, I'm guessing because I squat in my comfort zone?? Hardly lazy, but I'm just not going to miss basic training lifts. If I am, I'm training wrong IMO.

Dirty little devil Member 138, 356 posts | Post Edited: 10.09.2007 @ 22:26 PM Andy, fair points all round. One major difference is that you do not compete in squat, bench or deadlift. As you say, they are training lifts for you, so any 1rm are not necessary. For instance, I suspect you may miss C+J's/Snatches more often that squats or pulls. Going round in circles here a bit, but I suppose it's worth saying.

April 23rd this year, The Big Dave "don't phuckin panic" 720 attempt and I remember a 680 fail before that. In fairness the only two fails I can remember are "things are going well, let's give a shot and see what happens" unplanned attempts. As far as i can recall all the planned ones, ie, where I have had time to mentally prepare as well, have all been good.

Not true mate. 1RM's are also the name of the game for anyone wanting to lift the heaviest weight possible, and arnt just necessary. They are paramount. For instance, I suspect you may miss C+J's/Snatches more often that squats or pulls. Absolutely, but even they are maxed out for a very limited time Going round in circles here a bit, but I suppose it's worth saying. If I'm going round in circles I'm glad it's with you mate. I know I'm going to lose. Lol. Just glad we're not having this conversation as spoken. I'd be dead already To get back to the start I can only reiterate that personaly I think that I train in my comfort zone 'most' of the time. I often walk out of the gym with lifts in the tank, there for next time, and as an observation it would appear to me that most of the more prolific, bigger lifters do the same. Over and out (sorry Andy, but this thread is just too serious for me)

Dirty little devil Member 138, 356 posts | Interesting perspective; http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=nXyQuP--f-8 However, I think this thread has taken a jump from the importance of getting out your comfort zone, whether mental, physical or other to straining to missing weights..which is not what I originally intended. We are all on the same track anyway.. even with some lemon fresh absurdity/clarity thrown in.
