I'm just after getting details off Slater's about a 18" and a 20" stone mould which is costing €320 plus about €120 customs related charges, this seems allot for once off stones, anyone got an idea of a UK place that makes moulds? or a foolproof way to make some, just as I live in Ireland the cost of shipping a made up one would be crazy, thanks

did yu ring mick or try limerick strongman club? also check out the finnish lads journal doing a stone lift with one end of a barbell loaded and the other end empty butted against the wall looks like a good compromise

My only problem with that is the shipping to Ireland, would cost 5 times the price of the stone, his one's look great, proven to stand up2 the droptest

Whereabouts in Ireland are you? Probably much cheaper to hire a van, drive over and pick up a few stones. The ferry is pretty reasonable if you dont go at peak times.

I was thinking of getting something like this made up. In fact maybe JT could look into it to add to his range...

I`ve done something similar to that with a 1" spinlock dumbell and a combination of rubber coated olympic plates and some standard plates. Then I sandwiched the rubber plates in the middle and put the standard plates next to the collars. The rubber on the plates causes enough friction so the plates dont spin. and the spin lock collars hold everything tight.

I made my stones using the plaster of paris/ gym ball method finish isnt wonderful but they work and they are fairly cheap to make if you can find an ornimental fireplace shop to get the plaster from as its the postage which makes it expensive.

There are guides online for making fibreglass moulds too.

JT will make things to order if you ask.

Could a piece of scaff not do the same job?

You'd need a flat base so as not to stab yourself with the pole, so a plate would need to be welded onto the bottom. But that's all it is, a length of 2" pipe/bar with a welded base plate and a locking collar of some sort.
