Thanks for the encouragement Thing!

Rick:

Yeah, thats the kind of thing I mean. I also thought WSB would not still be brainwashing almost every beginner level trainee on the internet, but that hasn't changed either. Even trying to advise these guys on stuff seems pointless, on one hand you want to shake them and say you gotta build up a foundation! On the other hand, you just know their reply will be "but, but, but Faz! Louie Simmons says I need to...." and well, its just pathetic. Sure Simmons turns out champs, but these are guys who are already good powerlifters, they come to Simmons to go from good to great. People don't realise these guys are lightyears away from the common trainee, including you and me. So trying to build a foundation on a WSB routine is about the stupidest thing a guy can do.

I see guys all the time who aren't yet squatting 140kg, switching their Squats and Deadlifts for lighter speed days or alternate 'ME' exercises (or whatever Waterbury is calling them now). Its just crazy, they need to knuckle down on the basics for years. b**ch about progress, when they've given their bodies a reason to grow.

Thats just one example. But its a common one, running rampant across the boards even now. It used to be Weider for bodybuilding, now its WSB for strength.

Nice log matey! Nice to see someone on the comeback trail. Just got back from two months in South East Asia myself so whilst not in the exact same boat, im in need of some solid hard work to get back to where I was.

Met some guys who teach English in Korea too, they loved the life!

Whereabouts are you based? I remember talk of moving to London at some stage. It'd be good to meet up for a session sometime over the next few months....

Hey! As I wrote in your log, Brighton from about the 10th. So, yeah if you're in London, i'll try and come over. Or if you fancy a night out in Brighton (I hear its fun) you're always welcome once i'm settled down and all that.

I'm in the middle of that painful process of choosing accommodation. Choosing housemates is such a gamble!

About the training, wanted to write I havent been this tired after a session for months. I've been dragging my feet all day.

Still feeling exhausted, took it relatively easy today. Joints were still feeling pretty stiff too.

Friday 24th August

Light Presses, Chins

Bench Lockouts - 110kg x 5, 5, 5, 5, 5

Taking a look at possible causes for the fatigue, my protein intake seems to be the culprit. I'm going to bump it up closer to 300g a day which is what i'm used to in hard training. Rebuilding strength as fast as I am, is putting a lot of strain on my body.

Close Grip Inclines - 70kg x 5 ... 60kg x 6, 6, 6, 6

Nice work mate. That's not far off your best bench is it? What are your PBs?

What's the reasoning behind incline on close grips?

I'm interested in this too. I've seen a lot of people rave about close grip inclines for triceps, is it just a comfort thing? Or do you think they help get the shoulders stronger too?

I've heard they can do good things for your overhead too.

Give it a go, its a nice exercise.

Because you're on an incline, you have a longer range of motion, so that forces you to use less weight and strengthen the triceps without putting as much strain on the joints as say a regular close grip, or a partial one.

I'm all for avoiding unneccesary strain on the the joints. Seems like that was one of the few things holding me back last year.

More shoulder involvement as well, and like i've written before, shoulder strength is the key to a Bench for me.

About the Benches yeah, still a fair way off my maxes. I was doing singles with 135kg last year and made a 137.5kg at one point too. But heyho its moving in the right direction, so I can't complain. Cheers lads.

Its a shrug, you set up on the Cable Row machine but instead of rowing back, you keep your arms straight and just pull back with your shoulders blades. Really squeeze that upper back together.

190kg x 2

195kg from the toes
