Old Age Presser Member 75, 7711 posts SQ 0, BP 200, DL 200400.0 kgs @ 105kgs Eq | John WWW did the Northwich Novice comp today and was shocked at how high the standard was. He came tenth (out of fifteen) but he had never practised for any of the events, only got in on the day when someone didn't turn up, and he came second in the log lift (85K) having never even tried it before. As he said afterwards, he managed to move everything (not everyone could) and didn't disgrace himself and now he knows what it'a all about. And he got an invite to come over to Northwich on Saturdays to work with the equipment. We're going back tomorrow to watch the big guys. If anyone's there, come and say hello. I'll be wearing my black teeshirt with "Golden Oldie" on it - in gold, of course. Won't risk the singlet in case there's a gay pride stall at the show.

I only judge the day against my own performance.

Scotbasher - forever Member 59, 2115 posts | Had a look at the strongman comp in burnley for a couple of hours, sadly bad weather marred the event but there was a good turnout. One guy managed 22reps with 190kg on the deadlift which is mighty impressive. Mick Gosling was officiating with Mark Felix and Lee Bowers was there too.

Scotbasher - forever Member 59, 2115 posts | They were barbell deadlifts although they were rubber cased plates and rubber flooring which when doing tap reps can help with the initial momentum. Even so its impressive
