Passed a fuel station on the way home today that on Friday had petrol at 134.9. Today it was 135.0. Bravo for them, I never did understand all this .9 nonsense

MR Pete, Your amusing deadlift story reminded me of a time I thought I could beat Terry Hollands 28 bounced reps on 200kg

I had done 240x16 dead stop, so bouncing them should be easier right? Well no, having always done my deadlifts proper I found I was worse at bouncing them than doing them correctly.

And as for Hitchin, Its a place in Hertfordshire

Quite recently my car's odometer read 202020 and I thought of you. I also deliberately got the digital speedo to read 20 at the same time Happy

You are not the first to think this and you won't be the last. Doing it correctly is always the best way. Every "short cut" makes it harder. I applaud 240 x 16 though. That is excellent

Monday, 6th September, start 16:00

Squat, sleeves and boots on. Very hot
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
60 x 5
80 x 5
100 x 3
110 x 3
120 x 2
130 x 2
140 x 2
150 x 1
160 x 1
170 x 1
The intention tonight was to near enough replicate last week's workout culminating in a 180 single that would hopefully be better than last week's. As you see I never got there, all these tonight had the usual, but tonight, rather exaggerated effect of feeling heavy when picked up but not too bad when squatted. The 170 however felt monstrously heavy and was shaved as a result indicating that a limit had been reached.

I appear to have the old problem of squatting and deadlifting in the same week and cannot do both heavy. How to rotate things in a more manageable way is a mystery that I need to solve

20 x 10
20 x 10
20 x 10
30 x 5
40 x 5
50 x 5
60 x 5
65 x 3
70 x 3
75 x 3
80 x 3
85 x 3
87 x 2
I had doubts before the last set so shouldn't really have bothered with it and sure enough there was foot movement on the second rep which is always a sign. Hips slightly better but only by a soupson, and maybe not a full one at that :-(

Grim day at work today, got roped into some testing which took most of the morning then had to attend a meeting then call a couple of people back who had tried to get me earlier. I am not usually in such demand and ended up working through dinner so I finished early to make up for it. That time was spent chatting to Mack

No deadlifts tonight

Barbell bent row
20 x 10
30 x 10
40 x 10
50 x 10
60 x 10
70 x 10
70 x 10
70 x 10

Tbar row, these are in pounds
50 x 10
75 x 10
100 x 10
125 x 10
144 x 10
169 x 10
188 x 10
I discovered a 25 lb weight, which actually has 11.338 kgs cast into it, but we have only the one. This should explain some of the curious jumps

Pulldown to chest, kilos again
40 x 10
40 x 10
45 x 10
45 x 10
50 x 10
50 x 10

The reason for the removal of deadlifts is that they will be done on Monday. Because of the difficulty of squatting and deadlifting in the same week a change has been brought about. I had the rough draft and Mack ironed out the creases. All should be revealed in the fullness of time

The intention is to do both on the same day, and those days to be ten days apart. So Monday next week, Wednesday the week after, Friday the week after that and miss the fourth week. How effective it will be remains to be seen, but I have hopes.

I had a conversation in the chippy earlier about the second price increase of the year. By all accounts pretty much everything has gone up, more than once and not by small amounts. The fish delivery guy is distraught over brexit and he voted for it. "I never thought it would be this bad" is pretty much all he has to say about it, and he voted leave with relish. Imports are all top dollar and exports are rotting at the docks, or at least they are in the fish world, so he says at least

I can't remember the last time I squatted and deadlifted in the same day. I did it in my last comp but that was five years ago. So with no clear idea of what will happen next - away we go,

Squat, sleeves and boots on
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
60 x 5
80 x 5
100 x 3
110 x 3
120 x 3
130 x 2
140 x 2
150 x 2
160 x 1
170 x 1
180 x 1

The 170 was in, but not as in as it should have been. Determined to get it right withthe next one I concentrated on depth, as a result is was almost a paused squat, no dig at all and there rather more difficult to stand up with than I would have liked. Jeff pronounced it the deepest of the night so that will do nicely

Deadlift, sleeves and boots remain
70 x 3
100 x 3
120 x 2
140 x 2
150 x 2 second one better than the first
160 x 2 second one better than the first
170 x 2 much better
180 x 1

Made rather a pig's ear of the last one, not sure why, bottle went ? Lost confidence ? Just got tired ? Who knows but we end it here now. At least I have something to work on now.

Yup, so it seems. And since most of the fish Britons want to eat (cod, haddock, prawns, salmon) is not caught here, this is a massive problem in both directions. As a nation we mostly don't want to eat much of our catch (mackerel, sand eels, etc) and don't want to pay for the rest (sole, langoustine, etc). Though I'd love to see dogfish back in chippies (rock salmon or huss, as it was often called).
