Monday, 23rd August, start 16:00

Much happier today than last week, it is quite warm though and I did deadlift on Friday which is very rare for me. So here we go

Squat, sleeves and boots on, no belt
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
60 x 5
80 x 5
90 x 5
100 x 5
110 x 5
120 x 5
130 x 5
140 x 5
All deep and rather lovely, especially it would seem the last set. The hamstrings felt in on the warm up sets but that wore off as the session progressed. I rather enjoyed this tonight and I believe that the re-introduction of the 90 and 110 set was much better than the omission of them. Also Turner and Glynne kindly loaded the bar for me throughout, I don't suppose that made a huge difference but it was a kind thing to do and I won't talk them out of it if they ever decide to do it again. Happy

Wednesday, 25th August, start 16:00

Bench, very raw
20 x 10
20 x 10
20 x 10
20 x 10
20 x 10
30 x 5
40 x 5
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 3
75 x 3
80 x 3
85 x 3
Quite a pleasant little suprise there. The 80 triple was fine and the 85 (that was inspired by it) not discernably any more difficult.
Nothing is actually right yet but it is less wrong than it used to be.

Yesterday Mack was playing magic music, he whispers into his phone and music comes out of a speaker ten feet away. Witchcraft I call it but he seems to take it in his stride. As my old schoolchum Steve was there last night we requested some songs we liked rather than the s**te Mack usually plays. Free and Kris Kristofferson got an airing but as always when men of our age are allowed our heads we ended up with Meat Loaf.

Inspired by this I have just spent an hour on youtube playing some of the master's classics. Time very well spent I call it. f**k he's good. Other opinions are available but they're wrong. He is really f**kin' good. Possibly the best.

I've never been a fan of Meat Loaf, I just don't get him, I am obviously wrong of course

I also think Bruce Springstein is immensely over rated, and The Beatles

First time for everything oh handsome one. I don't rave about all his stuff, just mainly the Steinman songs. I quite agree about Springsteen and very much agree about the beatles.

Out of interest, in your idle moments who do you listen to ?

I would say I have a very eclectic taste in music, so it would be difficult to say what I listen to. I do like people who can actually sing, the likes of Gloria Estefan was a favourite in years gone by, I think Leona Lewis can hold a tune. Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Queen are all acts I would definitely listen to should they come on the radio but probably not seek out. Equally I listen to a lot of modern / current stuff. I just seem to like what I like

I hold your opinion in High regard on Most matters But Gloria estefan and Leona Lewis???? Over the Boss and the Fab Four????

I used to work with a Guy I will call him Steve Halitosis to protect his identity, he Hated Elvis I quote "sounds like mumbling to me"

The only time Steve ever wore any ear protection was on christmas eve when I took in some CD's to play.

Haha, each to their own I suppose. Was never a big fan of Elvis either, although he could carry a tune..

Saw Meatloaf at the NEC in November 94 - Basically Bat out of Hell 1&2. Brilliant.

Saw Springsteen at Les Vieilles Charrues in 2009 - 15 minutes of a 3 hour set were good, the rest boring, support band that day were the Killers who were absolutely brilliant.

I have to confess I am not a fan of live music, too many things that are out of your control. Volume, content, order of play and worst of all is the belief that most seem to have that you will appreciate a ten or fifteen minute drum solo in a place where it does not belong nor is it wanted.

Any memories I have are invested in the standard album track or single, that is what I want to hear, not your "improved", live version of it.

Understand completely where your coming from Pete, it's a very rare occasion when a live track matches up to the recorded version. That said, some artists really do know how to put on a good show.

I don't think it reasonable to expect a live venue to be as sound as a recording studio, plus a place that hold many thousands will hardly hold them in comfort. It's all about reasonable expectations. The live gig has a certain excitement that you may or may not be worth the price.

When Dr Rick and I went to watch the splendid Billy Joel at the truly awful Old Trafford football ground. The highlight of the concert was a truly wonderful rendition of "Downeaster Alexa" which literally brought a tear to my eye. The highlight of the day however was the burger I had at Hawksmoor on the way there
