WUS are trialing a new strongman competition layout.

They are starting with the 105 athletes who competed at clash of the coast

350kg tire x 10m
140kg sandbag x 10m
150kg farmers walk x 10m
360kg yoke walk x 10m
80kg monster dumbell x 1
300kg deadlift x 1
125kg log press x 1
160kg atlas stone x 1

10 minutes to complete

I for one think it's cool.

Maybe suit to the weight class athletes more than opens

If you had several athletes going at it at once it could add the missing bit of spice that I think CrossFit has over strongman comps

It's certainly a new twist on the usual medleys. Single event (that's actually all events in one) comps might be the way forward Grin

I have often thought this would be a good way to do a comp.

I think it would be a good cross over to Powerlifting 10 minutes for your 9 lifts.

I think it's a brilliant idea

I don't like it actually. Basically just one mega medley. Does it have to be done in order? What if you have a weakness in one of the earlier elements and fail, but would have been strong on later stuff?

Weights seem a bit mixed to me? 10m 140 sandbag a bit light no?

Perhaps one thing they’re trying to address I think is an issue from a spectators point of view — the long times and waiting around in a comp. a format I’ve suggested before I’d love to see tried out with a similar aim would be like this:

- 16 athletes, 5 events
- athletes spit into 4 groups of 4
- events run in a cycle:

1) group 1 does event 1 (simultaneously group 2 warms up/event 2 sets up)
2) group 2 does event 2...
...
5) group 1 does event 2
...
16) group 4 does event 1
17) a record-breakers event for a different class to give later groups some rest
18) final event with only top four overall competing

It would be continuously moving, no downtime. At any given time, one group competing while the other groups rest. I think that would be a fun watch.

The way Swiss competitions are usually run is similar.
E.g. Men Open and u90 do one event, while women + novice o105 and u105 do another, and rotate through the day. This requires more judges/timekeepers and loaders, but if you have the manpower you definitely save time. One downside as a spectator is if you're trying to follow several athletes or categories you can't just stand there and watch, you have to be aware of what's going on in different places.

The first post says 10 mins to complete. I don't think you could rotate with that schedule.

I was imagining that might be the whole “comp.”

I'm curious how they arrived at the 10 minute time cap.

I'm far from the fittest and I'd be appalled if i couldn't get through that emom style.

Might be interesting to watch for a change but I don't think it will work well after the novelty wears off.

Actually when you put it like that it seems a lot easier but tbf it's for time not just within 10 minutes, that's just the cap and it is for 105s

It's just a Strongman WOD. Unless you'd lots of gear, and people went head to head, I don't think it'd be a great spectacle to watch. Fun to compete in I'm sure.

I see this as the Strongman equivalent of bodybuildings ‘classic physique’ category.
Strongman ‘lite’ if you like.

Heavy CrossFit wod

Nothing wrong with mixing things up from your standard 5-6 event comp..
