I grew up watching Pudzian lift odd shaped objects while the rest of the field seemed stumped on how to move them. He has the most WSM wins. He often gets a rep as not lifting heavy, but had a 1085kg powerlifting total when that was world class. He seemed to have a gift for spotting a rule flaw to exploit e.g shouldering the Fingal Fingers up. I enjoyed this, but some fans probably saw this as cheating (like novistraps today.) He is the WSM GOAT. Who is your GOAT strongman?

Definitely have to throw Kaz into the conversation. Won events without even pushing his limits and would be strong enough for the top level even by today’s standards, 40 years later.

I think he would have won at least the next 3 WSM titles if he’d been invited.

I also like how he had the powerlifting world record total, with the bench and deadlift world records. If social media had been around he would have been a megastar by strength standards

Kaz's lifts where all un-equipped. He really was crazy strong bench presser 300kg world record for ages. 1100 powerlifting total.

Down with that. Kaz all the way. I reflect the same sentiment as others.
He was also not invited? (from memory) or left out of world's back then. Is that correct? Having that much power and at that time, I can feel comfortable scaling that up to the modern era. With modern vitamins and training methods, I'd be shocked if he wasn't a regular winner or podium today. But he'd also be there in the Arnold's mix.

I have Zydrunas as the "official" GOAT. WSM only is limiting. Simply being the best strongman is the correct answer in my eyes and with both WSM, ARNOLDS and other events, he is unparallelligrammed with anybody to date.

Still. Should we have another thread for favourite strongman? Because that deviates massively.

Kaz, lost out to the "TV favourites rule" allowing Capes to win.

Eugene Sandow followed closely by Kaz Zee and Pudz.

If Kaz or Zee win in 2022 I might have to change my mindHappy

Poundstone has always been my favourite strongman

I also think he's the most deserving strongman never to win WSM

GOAT is big Z though imo

I love Z, but always felt they changed WSM to favour him. This can sometimes be to the detriment of the sport (eg making log feel like the forth powerlifting event with it's frequency.)
In contrast the Dominator had rules changed to stop him winning and still won. Pudz also has more WSM trophies.

Z for me. Kaz was a great strength athlete but for me strongman wasn’t really established as a sport when he was competing so I think of him as more of a hybrid strength athlete than as a strongman per se. Modern era is where it’s at imo. Shaw is great in terms of comps but Z has comps AND lifts to his name. 205 x 4 greatest lift on record

Mark Clegg.

Honestly, top f**king all-rounder which I often compare to a lighter version of Misha K.
