Hot again, neck aches, back aches, thighs ache and right foot swollen. If ever I needed convincing that hard, physical graft is mistake, I don't any more

Monday, 26th July, start 1600

Arrived after a grim day at work to find only two present and several hundredweight of mats in front of the squat stands. lacking the energy or inclination to shift them I used the padded weightlifter racks which are really only for racks out use but have to be placed rather too close together to be used as racks in

Squat, sleeves and boots on
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
60 x 5
80 x 5
90 x 5
100 x 5
100 x 5
100 x 5
100 x 5
100 x 5
100 x 5
100 x 5
100 x 5
100 x 5
100 x 5
All deep and really rather lovely, the back and the foot seemed to enjoy it, the neck maybe not, but I did feel much better for doing it. Ju-jitsu guy came and went and then I was alone for a while but then Turner, Glynne and Handsome Jeff rolled in. This was a long way from being a bad night. I may just compliment myself on a good call.

Don't despair about thinning hair. I have seen this advertisement a couple of times now. It's very dramatic and makes it sound very serious. I wonder if it really is ?

Much cooler today, several short but heavy downpours during the day, but once at the club it felt strangely much warmer than I expected

Bench, very raw
20 x 5
20 x 5
30 x 5
40 x 5
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 3
75 x 3
80 x 3
The shoulder is much improved but maintaining an IPF legal bench position is giving my hips grief. The stretches are working but slowly

Low seated rows
No 17 x 10
No 18 x 10
No 19 x 10
No 20 x 10
No 21 x 10
The neck dislikes these. No point being silly. It ends here.

Physio tomorrow

Yes, the one that's too near the floor for its own good

Arrived to find a workman drilling, cutting and screwing things. Meanwhile in another room discoveries were being made about a recent addition.

Tbar row, these are in pounds
50 x 10
72 x 10
100 x 10
122 x 10
144 x 10
166 x 10
188 x 10
188 x 10
166 x 10
144 x 10

Matters were complicated tonight as things have been moved around, suffice it to say 188 pounds roughly equals 85 kilos. So hurrah

They don't make twelve inch rulers any longer.

It took a few seconds but Lord did I laugh at that

Tyre pressures checked, all bob on. Then drove to Adders to assist one of our female members, followed by dinner at the Poachers.

Squats tomorrow, not sure what to do there

60 x 5
80 x 5
90 x 5

We have had a platform built inside the racks, wood in the middle to stand on and rubber on the outsides for deadlifts. The wood is excellent to stand on and provides a very firm footing, but I had to raise the racks by one hole so I am now on six rather than five. I carry a tape at all times and use it at comps to settle the rack height for certain and avoid all doubt. Traditionally by bar height was fifty six inches, with the platform it is now fifty five, the only other option would have been fifty seven and I am a great believer in lower is better than higher. It made no appreciable difference, I seriously doubt that I will ever compete again, but I couldn't have lived with not knowing.

Fifty five inches, you read it here first

No improvement in terms of weight but there was with the ease with which it was done. Still piss poor but we are getting there. Socially quite a busy night

Arrived just before some seriously heavy rain tonight, it lasted only for ten minutes or so and as it all stayed outside the club and, as far as I could see, no trace got inside, I was rather cheered.

Bent rows
20 x 10
30 x 10
40 x 10
50 x 10
60 x 10
70 x 10
75 x 10
80 x 10
80 x 10
80 x 10
Lifted these at the opposite end of the gym from the windows and it was still light enough to lift by. Mack has always claimed that his end of the gym is much darker than mine, hence the necessity of the lights. I can now confirm that this is a pork pie.

The new pulldown machine is a lovely thing with a complicated pulley system, this makes a huge difference to the effective feel of the weights and these gentle reader, feel heavy, very heavy. If anyone does the full stack on this thing I will be seriously impressed. That is to say, no-one will. Certainly not me
