Trump will get another four years Member 126, 16707 posts SQ 160, BP 110, DL 225495.0 kgs @ 75kgs UnEq | in my weaker moments I get frustrated at the british publics apparent acquiescence to the removal of their civil rights. from what I have seen reported there is far more resistance to government overreach in europe than there is here. we mock the french for cowardice but they seem far more willing to fight for their rights than us. however, I try to temper that by reminding myself that they are operating in a state of fear having been schooled in a system that has sidelined the study of ethics, philosophy and economics. I have hope that these measures will eventually become so ridiculous that even the unquestioning souls will begin to balk at them. sometimes you have to travel through the dark in order to see the light.

BBC are very happy to show some sham drunk without a mask smashing up a local shop for refusing service. We can all look down on him. They don't cover anti mask demos in UK. They don't show the people meeting friends for coffee and walks in their Louis Vuitton mask while ignoring any kind of social distancing. Or all the people flying to South Africa/Brazil/Dubai to Ireland then on to UK so they can say they came from Ireland and not quarantine.

Generally speaking the French are quite prone to marching and striking, but there hasn't been much protesting against the various anti-pandemic mesures. Plenty of disagreement to varying degrees, of course, but very little unrest.

Nobody protests that their civil rights are being infringed because they're not allowed to drop their pants and take a s**t in the supermarket, another rule and custom that exists for reasons of public health.

I saw this the other day. as you say, they are much more prone to protesting for workers rights, so I imagine there may well be more tangentially related protests as the restrictions bite on the economy. I think the dutch and the germans have seen the most vocal protests? at the end of the day, when people have nothing left to lose, they tend to lose it. and I think the furlough scheme may well be the only thing holding back the tide of people with nothing left to lose.

Why can only a few of us see this???

Still got a little bit of strength Member 400, 22049 posts | I heard of a lorry driver dying in a crash, but because they happened to be Covid positive it went down as a Covid death. That sort of thing does make one question the figures. I wonder how many people are dying purely of Covid rather than of other causes but Covid happens to be present, or being very unwell anyway with other conditions and Covid being a contributory factor in their death?

I'm not saying that nothing should be in place, but I feel the balance is wrong. I see the lockdown/restrictions as very damaging. I can see much evidence of that in my own little bubble. I'm certainly stressed/unhappy at the moment. When that goes on for an extended period of time that really isn't good.

They're to keep them down to the scale we've seen, rather than vastly larger (and they should have been much lower, with much less invasive measures, if it hadn't been cocked up so very badly).
