As for technique;

Choke a band on top of a rack
Attach to a wrist then step away
Use the band tension to stretch te joint in as many poss a possible.
I start by working through small ROM's in different poss before going into stretches.

Anyway here are some links that may help;

http://asp.elitefts.com/qa/default.asp?qid=38542&tid=115 (I lik eto stand on a band then deadlift the bands holding at the top to get traction)

6/7/07

Squat with wraps- 180x1,(wraps on), 190x1, 200x1, 210x1, 220x1, 227.5x1, 232.5x1
Pin pulls from knee- 240x1, 260x3, 280x1, 300x0, 272.5x3
Grip work- hex-bell holds and pinch griping

Very enjoyable session. My 1st 500lb squat, albeit with wraps but still cool. The wraps felt odd at 1st but after a couple of singles it started to click and I was also getting the hand of putting them on. Walking it out was a bit strange to begin with too.

As my pb is 220 it looks like I got a 12.5kg carry over. With practice I reckon 240 (with wraps) would be do-able soon. Anyway the experiment worked. I will now use wraps on occasion to do some supra-maximal squat work.

Was a bit knackered after the squats to pull well but happy with 600lbx3. Productive work at least.

De-load next week. My lower back def needs the rest!

LOL! Ohh no! I've turned into a dirty gear whore. I guess it starts with knee wraps then before you now it your nicking car stero's to pay for your next tripple ply denim shirt Tongue

Pin pulls do rip your hands up. However I was using what is technacally called a 's**t bar' and with such in-substantial knurling you could'nt get nappy rash of it. Plus what there was of the knurling didn't go far enough towards the center of the bar, hence I was gripping smooth metal, and therefore using straps Happy

Bugger me straps and knee wraps in the same session!

Start of a de-load week.

Not any real training but did a batteery of exercise tests in the lab today for a colleges phd. Did the following.

1) Max force production using a Concept dynomoter. The following movements x10 MVC with 5s rest between efforts;

Horizontal pulling
Leg press movment
Horizontal pushing

2) Hand dynomter x 5 efforts with 30s rest

3) Static deadlift movment x 5

4) 8 min load carry on treadmill (4km/hr + 25kg load)

5) VO2 max test on treadmill (ramped incline then speed)

Havn't run or done a max test in years so my VO2 max will be way down. My relative value anyway. I did beat all previous scores on the max force testing Happy The majority of those tested so far are Army recruits and training teams.

Anyway it equated to a nice session of exercise. Going to repeat it all on friday.

Deadlift- 140x5x5
Dumbbell clean and press (from the hang)- 20x10x2
Hammer curls- 15x10x3

Nice light session today. Did the pulling in the lab with some light gates set up. I belive all reps were timed to within 0.1s of each other (0.4 - 0.5 s).

For those with a mild interest (ie nobody probably) my absolute VO2max was 4.16L.min-1 and my relative was 44.6ml.kg-1.min-1. My %BF was 18.6%. Although I probably don't look it Tongue

It takes years of experience to decipher the best ways to cleverly plug journals to the top of the forums without looking too obvious.

One of my favourite methods was invented by Rick last Summer, who updated his journal every time he went for a walk, citing it as 'cardio'.

Other methods include talking about how bad your DOMS are, how your car has broken down and emotional speeches suggesting that you are close to quitting powerlifting.

Bench press (comp grip)- 120x2, 125x2, 130x2, 135x2, 140x1 (+1F rep)
Floor press (pinky grip)- 90x5, 100x5, 110x5, 120x3
Chin ups- 3x10
One arm cable rows- 10x3

Good session. Lots of solid work in the bench, and although gutted I just missed 140x2 the 135x2 was an equal pb with a bit spare. Floor pressing as normal felt good and a bit of a change in pace by doing some chins. Not done any regular pullups/chins in years so I think I'll start to build them up.
