Media & Democrats are launching second 'war on terror' – against Americans – Glenn Greenwald warns

Some of the very same people behind the original ‘War on Terror’ are now helping start a new one against Americans, journalist Glenn Greenwald warned amid a rising crackdown on free speech following the chaos at the US Capitol.
Greenwald is a lawyer who turned to journalism in 2005 to protest the suppression of Americans’ civil liberties under the Bush-Cheney ‘war on terror’. He ended up playing a key role in publishing NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden’s revelations about the illegal mass spying on Americans. On Friday, however, he sounded alarm over what he saw as history repeating.

“There's absolutely a new War on Terror being initiated,” he tweeted. “This new one is aimed inward, domestically.”

Try Edge Chromium. It has good privacy built in even when not using Private Tabs.

If you sign into google at any point most browsers allow google track you with a cookie from google inc. Sign in on private tab only to check mails, youtube subscriptions etc.

I'm on signal but miss groups feature in other encrypted messengers.

I switched to a MIUI Phone recently. It frequently prompts me to clear tracking cookies and warns when google play apps have excessive permissions or reach out connectivity. I was on Apple for security previously.

Twitters explanation as to why they've banned Trumps tweets is really quite worrying , most of it seems to be because of how his tweets might be interpreted rather than what he said.
Its a f**king mess but surely if a banning like this is the answer what happens when the big tech companies decide that they want to ban other less objectionable people because it doesn't fit there world view .
The removal of parlor is particularly suspicious , there's no doubt that it was used to arrange the violent protest in Washington and that plenty of posts were calling for violence without being removed , but that has been happening on twitter since 2016 without any redress! A conspiracy theorist might argue it was an opportune moment to get rid of a rival

here's a couple of tweets that twitter argued were not against there rules:

Just to be clear twiter did eventually ban the chinese embassy tweet about "baby making machines" but only after coming under considerable pressure and initially arguing it didn't break any of its rules.
imagine the s**tstorm if trump had tweeted something similar !

They can decide what's broadcast on their platform. Trump still can say what he wants, just not on twitter. I really dont think this is as big an issue as people are making it out to be.

That isn't what's happening though is it?

Twitter are determining who they want using and representing their platform.
That's the same thing every business owner has been doing forever.

I'd argue a far greater impingement on our rights is when people try to trammel over that rule, such as the baker who was sued for not wanting to make a gay wedding cake.

not that simple. that would make them a publisher and open to lawsuits against content that their users post.

section 230 protects them from that and was put into place on the understanding that they operate as a public forum.

banning POTUS from that forum and their increasingly political stance would appear to put the protection that they enjoy in question.

the section 230 debate is a big one with proponents for and against on both sides of the political divide. after listening to arguments on both sides of it im still not decided where I stand.

the debate is interesting and worth looking into though.

They're allowed under section 230, to remove content in breach of their terms. Trump has repeatedly breached their terms. They had been, as a matter of policy, ignoring that, but there was never any guarantee of that exemption.

Removing clearly inappropriate content doesn't make you a publisher with an editorial policy, any more than Rob is responsible for what you write here. (He is responsible for acting on any complaints about it in a timely manner, however.)

their issue is how they interpret and apply breaches of their terms. if they apply them more harshly to one political grouping over another they cross the line into publishing.

you dont have to look hard to find far left material which is clearly in breach of their terms with no action taken whilst most right wing voices have been purged completely for much less.

I think its obvious some change to 230 needs to happen. I dont think removing it is the answer though.

if you have a spare couple of hours im pretty sure [from memory] they debated most of the issues on this rogan:
